POSITION CONCEPT:
Venue Associates at the Boston Center for the Arts work within the Operations department and support the Venue Manager. Venue Associates will work as general hands in various spaces and support event rentals across our campus. The Venue Associates help ensure our venues align with the safety standards of the Boston Center for the Arts and governing safety entities, and they will also serve as an ambassador for the history and mission of BCA.

Responsibilities include:

The duties of this position include, but are not limited to:

  • Serve as a representative of BCA for vendors and clients using BCA-operated spaces, including but not limited to the Cyclorama, Mills Gallery, and Plaza Theatres spaces.
  • Assist with ensuring public safety.
  • Provide production support for events and maintenance in BCA spaces, as necessary. This may include painting, cleaning, building, maintaining, setting up, operating, and breaking down various on-site equipment.
  • Assist Venue Managers in supervising heavy vendor load-ins, installs, and strikes.
  • Work possible early morning shifts and/or late night and overnight shifts. See job structure and rate for info regarding cab/rideshare reimbursement.
  • Enforce BCA policies with outside vendors and clients.
  • Maintain clean, organized, and safe operation and maintenance of venues and outdoor public spaces.
  • Assisting the Operations department with maintaining venue-specific inventories and paperwork.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

The successful candidate will possess most, if not all, of the following:

  • Have at least two years of experience working in theatre, live events, or house management or have a relevant college degree.
  • Basic knowledge in technical production or live event work is a plus. This includes but is not limited to lighting, stage management, carpentry, electrical, audio, rigging, and/or staging.
  • Ability to operate basic hand and power tools.
  • Ability to lift a minimum of 50 pounds and be active and attentive for long periods of time.
  • Strong ability to manage event-specific technical issues and requirements.
  • Crowd management certification and crowd management training (will be provided by the BCA).
  • Strong customer service skills and experience working in a fast-paced environment.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to stand, walk, sit, bend, and stoop; use hands to operate objects, tools, and/or controls; reach with hands and arms; climb stairs; balance; stoop, kneel, crouch and/or crawl; talk and/or hear; taste and/or smell. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. The Employee must be able to work in both outdoor and indoor work environments.

JOB STRUCTURE AND RATE:

The rate for this position is $20/hr, W2 is required. This is an hourly, event-based flexible-time position. Event shifts may include early morning and late-night shifts. BCA will reimburse cabs or rideshare rides taken when working past midnight and before 6am when a reimbursement application is submitted within two weeks of the event.

This position must work in-person, on-site at the BCA campus; there is no option for fully remote work. Additionally, it is a requirement for all staff to provide proof of COVID-19 vaccination and boosters and adhere to all safety regulations.
