Job Description: The Assistant Stage Managers (ASMs) at the Boston Conservatory at Berklee (BCB) support the management of rehearsals and orchestrate backstage during runs-of show, including plays, musicals, operas, or dance productions. The ASMs assist the Stage Managers (SMs) in the execution of production planning. The ASMs support organizing and disseminating production information, supervise backstage activities for assigned shows, and ensure that all post-production needs are met. As part of the Performance Services department, the ASMs report to the SMs and assist as supervisors of student Assistant Stage Managers and student-run crews. Create appropriate paperwork for the show, including but not limited to: prop tracking, run sheets, scene breakdown, entrance/exit plot, and who/what/where. Collaborate with SM to schedule and run rehearsals as assigned, and to prepare and distribute rehearsal reports, schedules and changes. Assist in rehearsal prop procurement. Assist in supervising rehearsals, tech and dress rehearsals, and backstage needs as assigned by the SMs. Assist in the creation of prompt books, run sheets and production checklists. Train and oversee student Assistant Stage Managers and student-run crew. Serve as Manager on Duty as assigned. Perform other duties that enhance institutional professionalism and/or academic needs. MINIMUM JOB QUALIFICATIONS: BA in Theater or equivalent 2-4 years of Stage Management experience KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED: Proficient in Microsoft Office and Google Suite Experience in maintaining and creating show paperwork SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED: Exceptional organizational skills Strong leadership and collaboration skills Ability to work independently Exceptional communication skills Ability to read or follow a musical or operatic score Familiarity with FileMaker Pro is helpful, but not required SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: Student-run crew Production Technicians Student Assistant Stage Manager(s) WORK ENVIRONMENT: Indoor environments, some with low light: stages, backstage areas, dressing rooms, storage spaces, office spaces Seated and standing positions Stairs and ladders SPECIAL WORKING CONDITIONS, PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS, ETC: Nights and weekend required Ability to climb 6-ft. ladders Ability to lift objects of up to 30 pounds This document does not create an employment contract, implied or otherwise, other than an “at will” employment relationship.
