Boston Energy Trading and Marketing provides asset management & optimization services to owners of generation and energy storage in North America, and wholesale energy to retail power & gas suppliers. Our proprietary traders cover competitive power markets including New England, Midwest and Western markets. BETM has been optimizing our customers’ generation assets for over 15 years. Our current organization has its roots in Citizens Power, dating back to 1989 when Citizens obtained the first FERC power marketing license and market-based-rate authorization. Mitsubishi’s Diamond Generating acquired BETM from NRG Energy in August 2018, and prior to 2014 BETM was known as Edison Mission Marketing and Trading. Mitsubishi's provides BETM with investment-grade credit support for BETM’s commercial activities.
Role Summary:
Boston Energy Trading and Marketing (“BETM”) is looking for an Asset Manager to join its Boston-based Asset Management team in support of its growing generation services business. The successful candidate will possess an understanding of the mechanics of North American ISO markets and a strong technical background. The candidate must be client focused as well as have strong collaborative capabilities across the Commercial, Risk, Business Development, Finance and Trading teams within BETM.
Responsibilities:
- Optimize the energy and capacity value of a diverse portfolio of natural gas, wind, solar, energy storage, hydro generation assets, and load:
- Develop daily offer strategies that optimize daily gross margin and mitigate outage and congestion risks in coordination with external clients
- Daily fuel procurement and OBA account management
- Prepare reports and projections (P&L, MtM, potential collateral, GM, GMaR, etc.)
- Model third-party asset dispatch, value and risk (including impact of risk mitigation)
- Comply with relevant laws, regulations, programs, rules and contracts
- Oversee daily unit commitment process
- Analyze power, congestion, gas and related markets
- Co-optimize a load and generation portfolio
Qualifications:
- Strong quantitative and analytics background, preferably related to one or more financial markets
- Understanding of physical and financial electricity, congestion, natural gas, emissions, coal, REC and market design in at least one of the following North American ISOs: PJM, CAISO, NYISO, MISO, SPP, ISO-NE or ERCOT
- Robust oral and written communication skills: Capable of supporting third-party asset decision making by developing and presenting complex information including market views over the phone
- Demonstrated ability to work in a team environment
- Strong focus on compliance with ISO market rules and the rules governing North American physical and financial energy markets
- Two (2) years prior experience managing generation assets or load in one of the North American ISOs
- Proficient in Excel
- Bachelor’s degree in quantitative related field or equivalent quantitative analytical experience
- Experience with Python, SQL, Visual Basic desired
- Familiarity with capacity market in at least one North American ISO desired
