Boston Metal is commercializing cutting edge extractive metallurgy technology that will revolutionize primary metals production, while decreasing cost and lowering environmental impact. This fast-paced startup company is looking for a Materials Preparation Technician to join the Anode Development Team.
This position will work with anode development team’s characterization team to support all branches of our development, root cause analysis, etc. Duties will include metallurgical and ceramics alloy processing, laboratory-scale experimental design and setup, sample preparation and analysis, data analysis and reporting, analytical equipment maintenance, laboratory supplies, documentation, and SOP management.
Responsibilities and Duties
- Material Sampling and Preparation.
- Material Testing for both R&D and Quality Control purposes.
- Execute tasks according to SOPs (Standard Operating Procedures).
- Work closely with engineers to execute unique project tasks.
- Provide support to engineers by means of material sampling, testing, and reporting.
- Sample Preparation for testing and analysis, including cutting, polishing, and mounting.
- Maintain a clean and organized working environment.
- Maintain a safety mindset while working in a fast-paced environment.
Required Qualifications
This position requires a minimum education level of a high school degree. Hands-on experience in a manufacturing environment or high-paced environment.
Desired Qualifications
- Experience with material handling and lab safety procedures.
- Experience with Microsoft Office.
- Experience with following SOPs.
- Strong attention to details.
- Good record keeping and organization skills.
- Experience with material sampling and tracking.
- Experience with high-temperature processes >1000°C.
- Metallographic and other sample preparation and analysis.
- Laboratory equipment maintenance.
- Experience with chemical hood operations.
- Experience with ceramics or metals is a plus.
- Experience with hoists and lifts is a plus.
- Previous experience with forklift operation and other warehouse management resources is a plus. Active Certification not required. Onsite training provided.

Physical Demands
- The employee must be able to wear Personal Protection Equipment (PPE) as required by the specific work activity which may include: N95 mask or respirator; various types of gloves/hand protection; safety shoes; head protection; and protective clothing.
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use their hands to touch, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear.
- The employee is frequently required to stand, walk, and sit.
- The employee is occasionally required to stoop or crouch.
- The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 55 pounds.
- Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
