Teaching and Curriculum Responsibilities Include (but not limited to):
- Teach 6th-8th grade STEM classes, integrating design thinking and coding skills using the IB MYP Design framework
- Teach 6th-8th grade introductory technology classes that “explore” a variety of applications (17 days each - previous offerings have included digital media, graphic design, robotics, etc.)
- Develop and regularly update an engaging, innovative, forward-thinking 6th-8th grade programming, STEM, and technology “explore” curriculum
- Foster and support cross-curricular integration of STEM and programming
- Model lifelong learning and innovation via participation in PLNs and engagement with EdTech publications; allow active learning to inform curricula development and evolution
- Update and maintain all Innovation Lab hardware, software, and supplies
- Interest in facilitating an after-school LEGO Robotics program (FIRST LEGO League) a plus
- Advisory responsibilities include supporting students with daily meetings and having three parent teacher conferences a year
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree required; focus in educational technology, STEM or similar field preferred
- 2 years’ experience working in elementary or middle schools preferred, experience in independent school settings a plus
- Passion for STEM and programming, and an interest in inspiring young students to code
- Experience building apps, games and websites using blocks, JavaScript, CSS, HTML or other languages desired
- Prior experience using or willingness to learn LEGO EV3, Sphero, 3D printing, Laser Cutting, and other STEM/Innovation Lab technologies
- Demonstrated ability to learn to use, problem-solve and troubleshoot technologies (hardware and software) independently
- Proven collaborator with a history of working closely with a variety of colleagues
- Strong organization and communication skills coupled with the ability to work and learn independently
- Technical experience with computer hardware and peripherals and/or network and systems administration a plus
- Technical and/or teaching certifications a plus
- IB MYP Experience in Design a plus
- Experience mentoring and supporting teachers in development of cross-curricular STEM/programming lessons a plus
- Experience with the International Baccalaureate’s (IB) Middle Years Programme (MYP) a plus
