Overview
Bowhead seeks a General Ledger Accountant to join our Finance Department in Springfield, VA
This position is open to recent graduates in accounting as well as candidates who have previous experience. This role is responsible for the day-to-day transactional accounting activity, serving to produce timely, accurate, detailed accounting work in compliance with GAAP and FAR. Individual must have strong accounting skills and problem-solving abilities.
Responsibilities
• Perform General Accounting functions, including create and upload adjusting and recurring entries, month end close work and account reconciliations for various balance sheet accounts
• Responsible for the overall upkeep of Inventory accounting to include mandatory quarterly physical count with Operation and stock status reconciliation
• Prepare and manage monthly labor and subcontractor accruals, in partnership with Financial Analyst team to ensure proper month end cutoff and capturing incurred expenses
• Handles all corporate registrations and coordination with the 3rd party vendor (CSC) to ensure annual reporting to secretary of state is timely
• Manage unclaimed property across 50 states
• Handles all cash deposits, coding and prepares cash receipts package daily and ready for posting
• Other duties as assigned
Qualifications
• This position is open to recent graduates in accounting as well as candidates who have previous experience• Bachelor's degree in business administration, accounting, finance, or related field preferred, but not required if equivalent prior experience• 2 years of accounting experience in medium or large size organization is preferred• Advanced level skills in Excel• Previous exposure and familiarity with government contract accounting, GAAP, FAR, and other principles, practices, and procedures of financial accounting field with the ability to apply that knowledge to all related assignment is a plus• Experience with Deltek Costpoint General Ledger and Project Ledger modules is a plus
• Ability to exercise judgement in selecting methods, techniques and evaluation criteria for obtaining results on new ad hoc assignments• Ability to work on complex issues that require in-depth evaluation of variable factors and to evaluate priorities and multi-task accordingly• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with ability to interface cross functional within the organization and outside customers• Requires ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with discretion• Strong interpersonal and analytical skills and the ability to work in a cohesive team are very important aspects of this position• Must work well under pressure and be good at meeting deadlines• Team-oriented and flexible, must be able to work closely with all levels of management
