Executive Director Position
The Bowie Business Innovation Center (Bowie BIC), an award-winning hub for business acceleration in Prince George’s County, MD, is seeking an Executive Director with the vision, entrepreneurial network, management, communication, and fundraising skills to develop and deliver business acceleration programs that continue to generate economic impacts for our county.
Bowie BIC was launched at Bowie State University in 2012 as an independent Maryland nonprofit organization. Bowie BIC is funded by the City of Bowie, the Prince George’s County Council, the corporate community, and the entrepreneurs participating in Bowie BIC programs. The Bowie BIC Executive Director reports directly to the Bowie BIC Board of Directors, which is comprised of regional business leaders. Bowie BIC recently relocated to Bowie State’s new Entrepreneurship Innovation Center, within the new BSU Entrepreneurship Living Learning Community. Bowie BIC is now physically co-located with the university’s Entrepreneurship Academy program for students, which has created new opportunities for collaboration between the Bowie BIC program and the BSU entrepreneurship students.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Leadership and Management
· Ensure ongoing programmatic excellence for Bowie BIC’s signature programs described on our website: our core Business Accelerator program, our award-winning 8(a) Accelerator program and our InnovateBOWIE! event. Build upon these initiatives, along with our client services to increase the organization’s profile and impact.
· Develop and manage the multiple revenue streams (public sector and private sector grants, plus user fees) that fund operations and programs against revenue goals and key performance indicators (such as company revenues, jobs generated, investment attracted), as agreed with the Bowie BIC Board of Directors.
· Formulate strategies and implement plans to attract new revenue sources to expand Bowie BIC programs and economic impacts.
· Manage and cultivate Bowie BIC relationships with prospective business advisors/partners, and community leaders to extend market outreach promote business development and expand a diverse network of mentors and advisors.
· Ensure consistent professionalism in the organization’s finance and administration, as well as development activity, communications, and overall operations.
Communication and Engagement
· Continually strengthen the profile of the organization through marketing, public relations, public speaking, and social media activities to engage a wide range of stakeholders and funders.
· Expand and refine all aspects of the organization’s communications -- from web presence to external relations -- with the goal of creating a stronger brand.
· Demonstrate techniques to effectively engage with board members, funders and stakeholders who are officials in Federal, State, County and local government, as well as at Bowie State University.
· Ensure effective systems to track program success and client impacts, and regularly evaluate program components against agreed performance metrics, so that successes can be effectively communicated to the Board, funders, and other stakeholders.
QUALIFICATIONS
Work Experience:
· Six to eight years of experience in a leadership role for a performance-based independent, non-profit entrepreneur support organization with significant local, state, and national government financial and political support.
· A successful track-record of attracting funding and managing innovative, high-impact programs that drive client company growth, to include experience with client outreach, recruitment, and performance data collection.
· Creation of a strong, diverse network of contacts in technology, government contracting and other growth-oriented industries in the Prince George’s County and broader Maryland entrepreneurial ecosystem.
· Experience managing monthly financial reporting, organization registrations and annual tax filings.
· Experience with effective program marketing activities, including digital marketing, social media, and surveys.
· Experience successfully managing small teams comprised of employees and contractors.
· Strong written and verbal communication skills and demonstrated experience as a persuasive communicator.
· Excellent interpersonal and multidisciplinary project management skills.
Education:
Bachelor’s degree in business, marketing, communication, technology, or related/ relevant field. Master’s degree in relevant field preferred.
COMPENSATION
This is a full-time position offering a competitive starting salary ($90,000 to $120,000 commensurate with experience) and comprehensive benefits package.
