POSITION SUMMARY & OVERALL OBJECTIVES

The Director of Education (Community & Careers) will spearhead efforts to bridge connections within the Boys & Girls Clubs of Dane County’s Education Department and the families it serves, facilitating access to available resources and identifying additional community supports. Leading a team of direct service staff, the Director will coordinate efforts to link AVID/TOPS scholars and area youth with career and leadership development opportunities, crafting tailored curriculum and engagement activities. This pivotal role entails overseeing collaborative endeavors across all school-based sites.

The Director of Careers and Community Engagement is also expected to be flexible and adaptable, taking on other duties assigned to support the organization's overall objectives.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Program Design & Event Planning (25%):

  • Lead collaborative planning efforts for various engagement events throughout the school year and summer career development activities.
  • Coordinate back-to-school initiatives, including logistics, activities, and communications to engage families effectively.
  • Organize and execute engaging community-facing events facilitated by the Education Department that supports youth and families.
  • Collaborate with staff to ensure family involvement in program activities.
  • Lead the continuous improvement process for career workshops and programs, evaluating their effectiveness and identifying areas for growth or refinement while ensuring grant compliance.

Supervising, Training, and Coaching (20%):

  • Provide comprehensive training and coaching to staff on college readiness, college success, and career programs.
  • Ensure the delivery of high-quality programming across all sites and summer career programs.
  • Support staff in developing effective career and leadership programming.

Continuous Improvement (15%):

  • Lead the evaluation process for career workshops and programs.
  • Identify areas for growth or refinement to enhance program effectiveness.
  • Tracking and database management.
  • Ensure compliance with grant requirements.

Resource Cultivation (10%):

  • Identify and develop additional opportunities for career development programs.
  • Research and cultivate resources to support Education Department members.
  • Collaborate with community partners to expand program offerings.

Partnership Management (10%):

  • Foster and manage programmatic partnerships, exploring potential collaborations with the support of the Assistant Vice President (AVP).
  • Explore potential collaborations to enhance program impact.
  • Maintain positive relationships with existing partners.

Site-Based Meetings (5%):

  • Participate in site-based meetings to build relationships and enhance connections to resources.
  • Collaborate with site staff to align programming with BGCDC resources.
  • Provide support and guidance to staff during meetings.

Volunteer Engagement (5%):

  • Evaluate programmatic volunteer needs.
  • Collaborate with staff to recruit and train volunteers.
  • Provide recognition and appreciation for contributions from volunteers.

Additional Responsibilities (10%):

  • Participate in special programs and events throughout the year.
  • Be available for occasional weekend and evening work as required.
  • Assume additional duties to support BGCDC's mission and strategic priorities.

BUDGET RESPONSIBILITIES

Co-manage and reconcile program budgets, ensuring financial integrity and accountability.

RELATIONSHIPS

​​Internal: As an integral part of our team, you will maintain close, daily contact with Education and School staff (both professional and volunteer), Club members, and your supervisor. This continuous communication ensures the seamless exchange of information, facilitates discussions on pertinent issues, clarifies guidelines and instructions, provides instruction and guidance, and offers counseling when necessary.

​External: Externally, you will maintain contact as needed with various community groups, schools, members' families, and other stakeholders to foster collaborative relationships and assist in resolving any arising issues. By actively engaging with these external partners, you contribute to creating a supportive network and ensuring the well-being of our members within the broader community.​

  • Staff, Family, and Community Partnerships: Building solid relationships with staff, families, and community partners.
  • Supervisor and Board Relationships: Establishing connections with supervisors and board members.
  • Volunteer and Youth Engagement: Engaging volunteers and fostering relationships with youth participants.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Engaging with donors, funders, and government agencies.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in Education, Social Work, Human Development, Psychology, Social Sciences, or a related field, or a combination of relevant education and experience.
  • A minimum of 2 years experience working in a non-profit organization, high school, school district, or post-secondary institution.
  • two years of direct supervision and team leadership experience
  • ​Reliable transportation and the ability to travel throughout Dane County. Must have a valid driver's license and insurance if using a personal vehicle.

​​Preferred Qualifications:

  • ​Experience collaborating with and across multiple teams or working within a community partnership model.
  • ​Knowledge of youth development frameworks and understanding of the systems and structures that contribute to inequities, which our program aims to address.
  • ​Ability to cultivate positive working relationships with BGCDC staff, board members, volunteers, members, partners, and stakeholders.
  • ​Proficient in various computer software applications, including MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Google Drive, Google Calendar, and SharePoint.
  • ​Familiarity with the AVID model or similar college access programs.
  • ​Considerable knowledge of the mission, objectives, policies, programs, and procedures of Boys & Girls Clubs, as well as the principles and practices of non-profit organizations.

REQUIRED HOURS

​​​This position is classified as exempt and full-time regular, requiring availability to fulfill the essential duties of the role, which may include working on holidays, weekends, and evenings as necessary. The position requires occasional travel to off-site Clubs, meetings, and events. Core Business Hours are 9:00 am-5:00 pm daily. ​​ ​​

WORKING CONDITIONS & PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Ability to read and interpret safety rules, budgets, instructions, and policy manuals. The ability to clearly and concisely exchange/receive ideas, facts, and technical information with others. Physical abilities required include bending at the waist and reaching above the shoulder to maintain files, speaking and hearing to exchange information, and dexterity of hands and fingers to operate a computer keyboard and other office equipment. The employee must be able to sit for extended periods. The employee will have periods of standing, walking, climbing, balancing, stooping, jumping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling. The employee may occasionally lift or move up to 20 pounds.
