formed through a dynamic merger of local Club organizations in Southeastern Massachusetts. Our approach to
driving systematic change is to address issues that negatively impact youth head-on, talking early and often about
the importance of overcoming peer-pressure and breaking free from generational cycles of opportunity . We believe
in an interdisciplinary approach to youth development, and so we work to address the root causes of the challenges
facing our region’s youth.
We are seeking an experienced Urban Farm Director to serve as an integral position at the Boys & Girls Clubs of
Metro South, stewarding and supporting multiple urban hydroponic farming sites in the cities of Brockton & Taunton.
The Urban Farm Director will oversee all areas of existing farm operations, develop, and expand the farm as it grows.
Provide leadership and coordinate with facilities, grounds, nutrition and other staff across the organization in the
development and operations of the farm. The Urban Farm Director reporting to the Riverside Clubhouse, Executive
Director will be part of implementing the vision to elevate the agricultural experience for students, staff, guests and
volunteers.
Qualifications:

and skills described below.
At least 2 years of experience managing and/or operating a vegetable farm;
Deep understanding of hunger related issues;
Experience in organic crop production/agriculture;
Experience organizing volunteer groups safely and productively;
Experience leading or teaching young people in an indoor/outdoor setting;
Experience working in a multicultural environment;
Experience with and interest in teaching about sustainable agriculture;
Proficient with basic power and hand tools;
Valid driver's license and willingness to drive large vehicles in the city;
Excellent organizational skills;
Strong capacity to work both independently and in teams, with ability to explain processes clearly and
support co-workers’ successful participation in them;
Dependable, responsible, independent, and open to learning;
Team-oriented individual with a good sense of humor;
Comfortable and familiar in talking about Justice, Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion;
Ability to work in a fast-paced, multi-site environment.
Essential Functions:
Grow a variety of vegetables to be distributed through Club, community, and partner programs - maximizing
production using sustainable growing techniques - growing at least 10% of the culturally relevant
vegetables;
Develop and implement a crop plan that reflects the needs of our organization and our community; and a
plan to realize this plan through our current assets;
Manage our Urban Farm sites including two Freight Farms, raised beds, and greenhouse;
Maintain and improve fertility and safety of the soil through farming practices;
Work with the Boys & Girls Clubs of Metro South’s management team to identify the amounts, timing, and
types of produce that can be grown for nutrition service, community partners, and emergency feeding
programs;
Work with both Clubhouse Executive Directors and VP & Chief Program Officer to incorporate on site
learning into youth programming curriculum;
Distribute produce to programs and partners through weekly produce deliveries;
Determine potential for expanded production and distribution to markets beyond current partners;
Supervise and educate Club staff and volunteers who are working in and with the farms;
Including identifying farm work opportunities that provide the best learning opportunities for and make the
best use of the skill set of GTC;
Manage and operate a mobile farm stand/distribution vehicle for respective service cities;
Manage maintenance and upkeep of Freight Farms, sheds and other Farm real estate;
Drive Club refrigerated truck and passenger van, as needed.
Continue to build positive relationships with neighbors, partner organizations, teachers, and students.
Create and maintain crop planning, seed order, and harvest plan documents;
Track outputs and outcomes needed to report to organization and funders;
Participate in annual planning and development and management of budget;
Provide and receive feedback to all team members;
