JOB TITLE: Chief Operating Officer (COO)

DEPARTMENT: Operations

REPORTS TO: President & CEO

PRIMARY FUNCTION:

Reporting to the President & CEO, the Chief Operating Officer position requires collaboration with staff in the Finance, Operations, Marketing, and Program departments. The Chief Operating Officer serves on the Senior Management team and actively interacts with the Board of Directors.

The Chief Operating Officer serves as the President & CEO’s (CEO) designee overseeing the areas of:


Facilities Management 

Including, but is not limited to managing:

  • BGCMC safety program 
  • Insurance package 
  • Quality control
  • Transportation/fleet, building/grounds, maintenance/repairs
  • Capital projects 
  • Event logistics 
  • Green initiatives
  • CAL OSHA compliance and security. 

Corporate and Foundation Partnerships 

  • Includes grants management of assigned accounts, grant application preparation, reporting, stewardship, research
  • working with the development team to determine strategies and meet established fundraising goals.
  • Corporate partner responsibilities include acquiring resources and/or funding that support BGCMC programs and events. 
  • Work closely with key staff to create budgets and ensure program and/or event goals are achieved to fidelity.

Chief Executive Officer Support 

  • Provide strategic support and ensure organizational quality control and accountability. 
  • Guard and enforce BGCMC brand, policies, procedures and standards.
  • Implement continuing education systems that ensure all staff understand and comply with BGCMC policies, procedures and standards. 
  • Prepare correspondence as needed by the CEO. 
  • Interact with staff and represent BGCMC with leaders of outside organizations, as appropriate, on behalf of the CEO. 
  • Attend meetings, special events, and other business functions on behalf of the CEO as needed.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Manage and supervise facilities and transportation personnel.
  • Manage building maintenance and operational programs.
  • Coordinate site safety programs.
  • Prepare operating reports and budgets.
  • Manage transport and equipment logistics for events.
  • Ensure all utility systems are inspected regularly and in good order.
  • Negotiate bids and vendor contracts.
  • Coordinate building security and maintenance systems.
  • Coordinate maintenance needs and schedules.
  • Maintain timely records and files.
  • Prepare and file reports.
  • Manage designated foundation and corporate accounts.
  • Grants management from researching and applying, to reporting.
  • Achieve established fundraising goals.
  • Secure in-kind, and monetary donations from corporations and foundations.
  • Stewardship of assigned accounts.
  • Quality control oversight for facilities, program and development departments.
  • Use sound judgment as the CEO’s designee as required.


Requirements


  • Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university.
  • Demonstrated leadership and management at the executive level.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong organizational skills and experience in developing reports.
  • Experience supervising, coaching and evaluating employees. 
  • Committed to BGCMC philosophy and mission statement goals.
  • Self-motivated ability to multi-task, prioritize and manage time.
  • Goal-oriented, problem solver and organized team player with a positive attitude.
  • Encouraging to team and staff; able to mentor and lead.
  • Demonstrated experience at creating and following strict budgets.
  • Accurate and precise attention to detail.
  • Ability to physically stand, bend, squat, and lift up to 30 pounds.
  • Strong technology skills are essential.
  • Bachelor’s degree in education, engineering, facilities management, business management or related field preferred. Certification in facilities management is a plus.
  • Experience working with youth development organizations.
  • Must pass a drug screen and a criminal background check.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/ WORK ENVIRONMENT:

? Must be able to lift 15 lbs.? Must be able to stand for at least 1 hour

? Must be able to sit at computer workstation for long time periods


COMPENSATION: Salary range starts at $140,000 to $160,000 per year and is based on experience and qualifications. Paid benefits package includes paid vacation, paid sick leave, Medical, Vision, dental, Pension and 403(b) Plan Investment Options.  Professional development opportunities are available contingent upon funding and approval. This position is classified as exempt under the FLSA.
