Job Summary: The Academic Counselor will provide individual and group academic advising to medical students, graduate students, physician assistant students, residents, and other medical learners at OSUCOM-CN-Tahlequah and OSUCHS-Tulsa. This advising will focus on developing effective learning skills, study strategies, assessing learning styles, time management, and test preparation. In collaboration with faculty and administration, the Counselor will help create a supportive academic environment that fosters professional growth and competency development. The Counselor will assist learners who are struggling academically by developing customized interventions to improve their performance. Additionally, the Counselor will assist in overseeing the Supplemental Instruction Program and other academic success initiatives at both campuses. Principle Duties and Responsibilities: -Meet with medical students,
graduate students, physician assistant students, and residents one-on-one
or in small groups to develop and monitor personalized academic success
plans. -Work closely with staff in the
Office of Academic Success, Office of Curriculum, Office of Academic
Affairs, and the Office of Student Affairs at both the OSUCOM-CN-Tahlequah and
OSUCHS-Tulsa campuses to support student achievement. -Administer standardized tests to
assess learning styles and tailor support strategies. -In partnership with Academic
Counselors at OSUCHS-Tulsa, assist in developing and implementing programs
that promote academic success for medical learners across campuses. -Oversee the Supplemental
Instruction program and other academic support initiatives at OSUCOM-CN-Tahlequah and OSUCHS-Tulsa, including implementation, monitoring, and improvement. -Conduct small group and
individual sessions to provide academic skills coaching and development
for students. -Perform other duties as assigned
by the Director of Academic Success, Assistant Director, Associate Dean
for Curriculum, and the Dean at OSUCOM-CN-Tahlequah. Physical Requirements: Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull 20 pounds. Ability to stoop,
reach, stand, walk, finger, grasp, feel, talk, hear, see, and perform
repetitive motions with or without reasonable accommodations. Sufficient to
conduct specific job functions of an Academic Counselor.

Position Qualifications: | Requirements: -Experience in academic remediation, academic advising, learning skills development, or equivalent experience. -Bachelor’s degree in Education, Psychology, or closely related field. -Valid Driver's License
Skills, Proficiencies, and Knowledge: -Demonstrate commitment to proactively developing learners. -Outstanding oral and written communication abilities, including public speaking, presentation skills, and leading small group discussions. -Self-driven and reliable with superior capacity for independent and autonomous work. -Exceptional skill in interacting and communicating successfully and professionally with individuals and groups at all institutional levels. -Strong attention to detail paired with solid organizational management abilities. -Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint, Excel), Zoom, and learning management systems. -Dedicated to diversity, mentoring, professionalism, collaboration, mutual respect, and student advocacy. -Knowledgeable of academic success strategies and skills. -Able to oversee multiple projects successfully and conduct advanced planning of activities. Preferred: -Master’s degree in Education, Psychology, or closely related field. -Two years of experience working in an educational setting
(Post-Secondary or K-12 education) is strongly preferred.
