What are the responsibilities and job description for the Inspector position at BP?
The Inspector is a member of the Engineering and Technical Services (E&TS) Team, reporting to the Integrity Superintendent. The Inspector is part of the Inspection team which is responsible for managing all of the required piping and fixed equipment inspection activities.
The Inspector will be assigned to a geographic (operational) area at the Business Unit and perform jurisdictional inspections on fixed equipment and piping. These inspections cover all pressure retaining equipment in order to establish its condition and fitness for service based on BP recommended practices and industry required codes and standards. The Inspector plays an integral role in assuring compliance by the Business Unit to all pressure vessel and piping codes, as well as continued mechanical integrity, reliability and availability of fixed equipment and process piping.

Key Accountabilities:
- Performs new, in-service and repair inspections of boilers, pressure vessels, heaters, atmospheric storage tanks and piping
- Coordinates and oversees Nondestructive Evaluation (NDE) as necessary to insure code requirements are met on new and repaired equipment.
- Communicates the results of inspections to Asset Team via Inspection reports and/or Inspection Recommendations.
- Analyzes and documents inspection results using the site’s inspection data management system, and maintains the unit inspection schedule, inspection plan as well as supporting drawings, files and calculations.
- Provides technical support to the Asset Team on code requirements for repairs and inspection of piping and pressure vessels.
- Participates in TAR planning, TAR worklist development and executes TAR inspections.
- Participates in development of Major Projects as it relates to new equipment, piping and storage tanks.
- Represents Inspection department in unit HAZOP, MOCs and Damage Mechanism Reviews
- Maintains and communicates Inspection schedule for Fixed equipment and inspection recommendation due dates to assure Safe and Reliable operations as well as maintain compliance.
- Carrying out inspections in accordance with the authorized reassessment plan
- Evaluation of inspection data, preparation of inspection reporting in compliance to Jurisdictional codes and BP engineering practices.
- Administrative processing of inspection reports in the IDMS (Meridium)
- Physical ability to climb, work at heights and in confined spaces.
- Ability to support refinery Inspection activities outside normal business hours as required to support the 24/7 and TAR activities.
Education:
- Minimum High School diploma with 5-7 years Refinery Fixed Equipment Inspection experience
- Minimum 2Yr College degree in Technical Field with 2-5 yrs Refinery Fixed Equipment experience.
- API 510/570 certifications required as minimum.
Desirable Criteria:
- National Board Inservice commission or ability to obtain certification within 2 Yrs. if requested.
- API 653 certification
- API 580 RBI certification
- Refractory Inspection experience or certification per API 936 or ability to obtain certification within 2yrs If requested.
- Prior certification of ASNT non destructive testing VT/PT/MT/RT/UT Level II.
- NACE Level II Coatings Inspector certification
- Knowledge regarding degradation mechanisms
- Experience in use of Meridium Inspection Data Management program for plant condition-based analysis for piping, pressure equipment and storage tanks
- At least 3 years of demonstrable experience in the oil and/or petrochemical industry, in a technical function in the field of inspection of pressure equipment.
