Overview:
This is a technical sales position focused on chemical product B2B sales into the water treatment industry. Position is remote but prefer candidates located in the Eastern, Southeastern, or Northeastern part of the United States. Will be focused on business development and building new relationships within a large geography and several supporting operational sites to provide product.
Summary:
The Water Treatment Sales Specialist’s primary focus is on account management and technical support of our commodity and specialty chemical sales groups with regards to our water treatment product line in both industrial and municipal applications. Responsibilities will range from direct and collaborative sales, providing product knowledge, and technical support to both internal sales groups, as well as our external water treatment customers regarding our specialty line of products with emphasis on Peracetic Acid in the water treatment sector.
Responsibilities:
- Identifies prospective customers for use as sales leads through proactive networking, cold calls, and other proven business research methods.
- Establishes, develops, and maintains positive business and customer relationships.
- Serve as subject matter expert (SME) and technical support for all water treatment related sales.
- Maintains professional and technical knowledge by keeping abreast of best practices and promotional trends within the industry.
- Travels to call on current and prospective customers to solicit orders and build rapport thru direct sales efforts and joint calls with internal sales staff.
- Communicates the value proposition of Brainerd’s products and service offerings using various marketing materials, technical documents, and experience.
- Creates and maintains sales presentations for internal and external use.
- Operate Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) software in order to maintain call reports, customer file records, and keep management informed.
- Maintains sales volume, product mix, and selling price by keeping current with supply and demand, changing trends, economic indicators, and competitors.
- Recommends appropriate selling prices to sales within set parameters by monitoring costs, competition, and supply and demand.
- Establishes working relationship with Customer Care department within the company and the sales team to keep account activities and sales literature up to date and accurate.
- Investigates and resolves customer technical water treatment problems.
- Partner with sales and customers on the creation of custom chemical blends and new products.
- Manage technical projects from conception to implementation as needed.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree from a 4-year college or university required; technical degree highly preferred; May consider some combination of experience, education, training, and certifications in lieu of degree.
- Minimum of 5 years of sales experience within a fast-paced environment focused on chemical products related to water treatment.
- Must possess the knowledge and ability to conduct water and wastewater testing to include complete water analysis, disinfection studies, and Jar Testing.
- Design water treatment programs to satisfy customer needs.
- Proficient knowledge of MS Office products, including a high proficiency in Excel, required.
- Excellent written communication skills, including the ability to write routine reports and business correspondence.
- Excellent verbal communication skills, including the ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organizations.
- Must possess the ability to communicate technical terms and lingo into conversational language for various audiences, including but not limited to business managers, sales personnel, front-line operations personnel, and executive staff.
- Basic algebra skills and the ability to calculate figures and amounts such as chemical dosing, flow rates, mass balance, discounts, interest, commission, proportions, and percentages.
- Must possess experience managing multiple, competing projects at once time.
- Must have strong negotiation skills.
- Must be self-motivated and a self-starter; taking initiative to drive sales and productivity.
- Engage effectively with senior management, sales team, and key functional teams.
- CRM software experience preferred.
- Water treatment certification (CWT) a plus.
- Must own a vehicle that is in excellent visual and mechanical condition for customer visits for which the company will provide a vehicle allowance.
