Job Posting for Experienced Finance Analyst - Insurance Risk (Columbus, OH) at Branch Insurance

Experienced Finance Analyst - Insurance Risk (Columbus, OH)

Department: Finance and Accounting

Employment Type: Full Time

Location: Columbus, Ohio

Description

Branch is on a mission to make insurance less expensive, so more people can be covered. We use data, tech, and automation to simplify insurance from start to finish — cutting out the long, bait-and-switch quotes and unnecessary costs in the traditional insurance process. Then we pass those savings along to our members. The result? Prices in seconds. Hundreds in savings.

But we’re not just changing the way home and auto insurance works. We want to change what it means to “work in insurance,” too. Restoring insurance to its original purpose — a force for communal good. Together, we’re getting back to getting each other’s back.

Our Finance and Accounting team works as the backbone of financial management and reporting for the entire Branch Organization.  We bring best practices in automation into a traditionally task-focused area to unleash talented professionals to spend more of their time on value-add investigations and less of their time on repetitive work. We're responsible for everything from treasury management and statutory accounting to financial planning and strategic initiatives.  We provide best-in-class financial information into each department as we collaboratively build the next leading insurance company.

The Finance Analyst reports to a Finance Manager in the department. This person will be responsible for compiling and analyzing data on past financial performance to glean insights and train models to predict the future financial performance of loss costs and premium growth. They will be a player in multiple finance verticals, including FP&A, market research, and financial modeling. They should be familiar with different finance, accounting, and planning calculations. The ideal candidate will also be tech-savvy with the ability to utilize data warehouses and different systems.

We’re building a technology-first and data-driven digital finance organization while eliminating traditional structural inefficiencies. The ideal candidate should not be afraid to roll their sleeves up to ensure we’re achieving industry-best outcomes all while making sure we’re delivering on our promise to our members.

Branch is remote native, yet Ohio residency is required for this role with occasional travel to Columbus, OH (HQ).

Key Responsibilities

  • Implement FP&A best practices, crafting and distributing valuable financial analysis and models, and adding to the strategic positioning of finance within Branch.
  • Execute the ongoing FP&A process and improve existing processes, procedures, and analysis to add effectiveness and efficiency to the team.
  • Understand and interact with leaders across claims, product, and actuarial science to gain a deep understanding of our risk management and underwriting operations.
  • Collaborate directly with senior leaders to drive financial and operational value within specific claims and support the collecting and analysis of relevant financial data to aid in leadership decision-making.
  • Interact with accounting and data teams to ensure accuracy of financial data
  • Learn effective communication techniques and support generating financial reporting content for various audiences, including internal management, external investors, external vendors, and regulators.

Skills Knowledge and Expertise

  • Strong knowledge of corporate finance with love for measurement and prediction
  • In touch with current market conditions that may impact financial outcomes
  • Four-year college degree or equivalent experience
  • Professional FP&A experience
  • Creative, out-of-the-box thinker who refuses to accept the status quo
  • Ability to “Call the Play” with imperfect information
  • Excellent analytical skills
  • Proven track record of prioritizing work and managing multiple projects, in addition to the daily workload
  • Ability to work independently and manage ambiguity
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Instinctually identify opportunities and create data-supported solutions
  • Good understanding of technology and its relation to the finance and FP&A process. This includes familiarity with protocols to securely transmit data, building no-code workflows, and data creation and reporting.

Benefits

We don’t just get our member’s backs. When you’re a Brancher, we’ve got yours, too — starting with benefits that let you live and work to your fullest.
