Summary/Objective

The Plant Manager is a “full charge” business manager with P&L responsibility. This position manages all aspects of the location including sales, operations and office functions. The majority of this position is spent with grower customers developing crop plans, product recommendations and assuring custom applications are timely and accurate. The Plant Manager manages the staff at the retail location, including an Administrative Assistant. The Plant Manager is responsible for overseeing customer invoicing, inventory management, deposits and reporting. The position is supported by crop protection, fertility, seed specialists and technical agronomists. The Plant Manager provides agronomic support, education, and manage sales within the designated area.


The Retail Agronomy Plant Manager will report to the Regional North Manager of Brandt Agronomic Services. This position will work with the Lexington customer base.


Essential Functions

  • Provide agronomic support to local customers
  • Management of a Retail agronomy sales and operations facility in Illinois with P&L responsibility.
  • Develop “trusted advisor” relationship with grower customers.
  • Manage employees, custom application fleet, product inventory and reporting.
  • Provide agronomic advice to customers and staff.
  • Provide Leadership during intense seasonal performance periods.
  • Calls on regular or prospective customers to generate new business
  • Knowledge of the retail agronomy industry
  • Answers questions concerning products
  • Builds and develops long-term relationships with customers, peers and suppliers
  • Provide problem solving and understanding of customer needs to reach customers’ goals and expectations
  • Ability to analyze and investigate then resolve customer issues

Supervisory Responsibility

This position is responsible for managing all employees at the designated location including the administrative assistant.


Work Environment

The Retail Agronomy Plant Manager will be required to work within their designated territory, assisting customers.


Classification/Expected Hours of Employment

This position is a full time position and is exempt from minimum wage and overtime pay requirements under federal and all applicable state or local laws. Days and hours of work are based on needs of customers and seasonal work.


Travel

This position requires up to 40% travel within their designated territory.


Required Education and Experience

  • 4 year degree in Agronomy or Ag Science. And/or minimum 2 - 5 years of job experience required.
  • Certified Crop Advisor designation preferred.
  • Intermediate computer and software skills required.
  • Valid Driver’s License is required.
  • CDL license required.
  • Must be able to lift 50 lbs.
