Title: Family Resource Center Director

Department: Family Resource Center/School-Aged Child Care

Salary: $82,000 - $85,000

Position definition: This position is responsible for directing and evaluating all FRC/SACC programs, and will oversee the implementation and maintenance of mandated standards at each program site.

Supervision received: Receives overall direction from the Superintendent or designee, who shall outline general policies, assign duties and review work for conformance with standards. Performs regular duties on own initiative, exercising a high degree of judgment and tact.

Examples of essential duties:

  • Create and implement developmentally-appropriate learning environments for children
  • Implement administrative systems to accomplish program goals, missions, and objectives
  • Communicate effectively and foster relationships with staff, students, families, and the greater community
  • Monitor and ensure that Branford Public Schools, CSDE and Connecticut After School Network policies, regulations, licensing requirements and standards are fully in compliance at all program sites.
  • Ensures compliance with all state statutes and regulations governing child day care and the standards for the School Readiness Program set by the Office of Early Childhood (OEC).
  • Ensures program alignment to accreditation requirements for the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC)
  • Aligns staffing, resources, services and activities to achieve performance objectives identified by the CSDE. Produces performance-based and quality improvement outcomes linked to these objectives.
  • Hires, supervises and evaluates program staff and substitutes, directs the scheduling and placement of staff at program sites.
  • Prepares and manages the FRC, SACC, School Readiness and related budgets.
  • Seeks opportunities to reduce the financial burden on families while maintaining a fiscally sustainable program through fee collection.
  • Ensures integrity and fidelity to program data collection and reporting requirements.
  • Support staff with timely answers to questions regarding programs, safety of students and parent concerns.
  • Manages time effectively to be accessible and to ensure appropriate on-site program supervision during hours of program operation.
  • Collaborates with building principals relative to facility and operational issues related to SACC.
  • Develop programs for SACC and FRC, including summer camp and enrichment programs serving students from all elementary schools.
  • Works in conjunction with Shoreline Adult Education to meet the goals, objectives and long term vision of the adult education program.
  • Model ethical behavior and commit to the NAEYC Code of Ethical Conduct.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Minimum qualifications required:

1. Bachelor of Arts or Science degree in childhood education, child development or child study

2. Master’s degree in child development, early care and education or a related field preferred

3. Early Childhood Education Director’s Credential

4. Two years of experience in child care, public administration or early care and education with at least 1 year in a supervisory role

5. NAEYC Accreditation experience preferred

6. Bilingual English/Spanish preferred.

7. A combination of education and experience that demonstrates the abilities to perform the responsibilities of this position may be considered in lieu of stated education and experience requirements.

Knowledge, skills, and abilities:

· Must communicate effectively in a culturally competent manner with people of various socioeconomic, racial/ethnic and educational backgrounds.

· Ability to effectively plan for and manage financial resources in a large, complex system.

· Ability to write clear and concise business correspondence and instructions.

· Ability to resolve problems and deal with a variety of situations where only limited precedent or standardization exists.

· Ability to organize projects, prioritize workflow and complete multiple tasks simultaneously and accurately.

· Demonstrates independent judgment, initiative and tact in dealing with staff and the public.

· Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, and diagrammatic or schedule form.

License or certificate: A Connecticut Motor Vehicle Operator’s license is desirable.

Physical, mental exertion/environmental conditions: There is regular intermittent exposure to computer screen. Performs duties in an office environment. May be required to lift and move weights up to 20 pounds. Uses repetitive motions in operating office equipment, including keyboards, calculators, fax machines and copiers. Must be able to hear clearly (correctable to within normal limits) to record telephone information, and to see (vision correctable to 20/20) to complete applications and forms. Adaptive technology may be used.
