CRIMINAL HISTORY BACKGROUND/ CREDIT CHECKS/MVR: Employees must hold and continue to maintain a favorable criminal history background. Brenau University will conduct criminal background checks on all persons being considered for initial employment. In some circumstances, an FBI fingerprint report may be necessary to satisfy the requirement. Credit checks may be performed on employees who are selected for a position that regularly engages in handling credit cards or other company monies. Due to insurance requirements, employees operating university vehicles must be at least 25 years of age, have a valid Georgia driver’s license, and good driving record. An MVR may be performed during the hiring process. All employees who operate university vehicles or who are employed in a sensitive position may be subject to post hire drug screening and random drug-screenings. All employees are subject to reasonable suspicion drug screening.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Education –Bachelor’s Degree required; Master’s degree in student development or related area preferred.
  • Experience – Managing students and organizing student events; advising student organizations; implementing service and leadership initiatives; working with diverse populations and multiple functional areas within a higher education setting
  • Skills & Abilities – Strong interpersonal communication skills (oral/written); effective organizational skills; student advocacy; decision-making ability; knowledge of assessment practices, including the development of learning outcomes; knowledge of specific trends and issues affecting student life and student engagement; ability to incorporate principles of diversity/social justice.
  • Supervisory Responsibilities –Supervise student leaders, student workers, student groups and organizations; model strong presentation, organization, orientation planning, management skills.
  • Collaboration: Must be committed to teamwork and collaboration across departments of the University, fostering positive engagement with internal and external constituents.

Responsibilities:

  • Serve as a full-time professional to oversee the vision, operation, and assessment of student engagement programs and services.
  • Support departmental and institutional missions and advance the university’s strategic plan.
  • Contribute to holistic development of students through programs, events, leadership opportunities, and membership in organizations.
  • Advise the Student Activities Board (SAB) and oversee student activities, contracts and processes for the Gainesville campus.
  • Initiate, plan, implement, and evaluate student events, as well as ongoing programmatic efforts for student engagement.
  • Work collaboratively to plan, execute, and assess orientation and leadership programs to prepare incoming students for success.
  • Serve on the University on-call rotation that responds to student issues and emergencies during business hours, as well as on nights and weekends.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Vice President of Student Services.

Environmental and Working Conditions:
Normal environment found in an educational setting

Physical Demands and Aptitudes:
Able to lift 5 pounds on a regular basis and 20 pounds maximum, periodically.

Work Hours:
37.5 hours per week. Generally, Monday-Friday from 8:30 am to 5:00 pm. Hours may be extended to meet the needs of the department.

Travel Requirements:

Some travel related to professional development and training may be required

Home Campus Designation:

This position is an on-ground position based in Gainesville, GA.

Licensure Requirements:
