What are the responsibilities and job description for the Bus Monitor position at BRENHAM ISD?
BRENHAM INDEPENDENT SCHOOL DISTRICT
- Ability to follow verbal instructions and communicate effectively
- Ability to operate safety equipment and adaptive equipment
- Ability to work well with children with disabilities
- Ability to work well and cooperatively with the driver of the bus
- Assist students with disabilities on and off the bus according to their individual needs. (Students should not be lifted to get on or off the bus.)
- Cooperate with the bus driver to load and unload students using the bus lift mechanism when they are unable to load or unload using the normal service door route.
- Supervise students as they board and leave the bus and cross the street.
- Learn and adapt to each student’s special medical, physical, communicative, and emotional needs.
- Manage student behavior and report student discipline problems to the appropriate administrator.
- Communicate with the Driver and Operations Specialist regarding student discipline.
- Become familiar with all routes to and from school campuses to be of assistance to driver.
- Assist driver in maintaining an updated route schedule.
- Supervise use of seat belts, harnesses, or car seats by students.
- Insure that all students, including those in wheelchairs, are secured safely for transport in the bus.
- Follow emergency procedures and help driver administer first aid, if necessary.
- Operate equipment according to established safety procedures.
- Follow established procedures and techniques to perform job duties including lifting, assisting students, etc.
- Become familiar with and follow the procedures established by transportation.
- Cooperate with the bus driver to keep the bus clean.
- Be available to work irregular hours as needed.
