Job Summary
The Major Gifts Officer is a critical position within the organization, responsible for identifying, cultivating, and soliciting new and existing donors to support the capital and charitable needs of the organization through gifts of $10,000 or more; responsible for building and maintaining good relationships with donors to increase overall retention and giving levels; reports to and prepares the CEO to participate in donor relations and solicitations, when appropriate.

Essential Responsibilities
Donor Relationships
- Identifies and cultivates relationships with major donors and solicits major gifts to meet Hillcrest’s capital/charitable needs and fundraising goals. (Major gifts are defined as $10,000 or more.)
- Proactively seeks opportunities to create innovative gift proposals that inspire donors to make major gifts to Hillcrest.
- Meets regularly with donors and prospects.
- Serves as the primary relationship manager for major donors and prospects.
- Develops and implements a written strategy and timeline for each donor.
Department Responsibilities
- Works collaboratively with members of the Philanthropy Department to achieve department goals.
- Seeks out and maintains a good understanding of the charitable and capital needs of Hillcrest.
- Develops messaging to clearly communicate the mission of Hillcrest.
- Helps develop and communicate the case for charitable support.
- Builds strong personal and professional relationships with residents, families, and associates.
- Participates in strategic planning.
- Records all interactions in Raiser’s Edge.
Events
- Plans and carries out events that cultivate relationships with major donors and prospects.
- Attends and assists in the planning of Hillcrest fundraising events.
Planned Giving
- Educates major gift donors and prospects on opportunities and benefits of planned giving. Solicits bequests and charitable gift annuities.
- Helps develop collateral materials to attract and educate donors on planned giving.
- Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications, Skills, & Abilities
Education & Experience:
- Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent
- A minimum of 3-5 years of experience with an established track record of successful major gift fundraising.
Demonstrated Abilities:
- A strong understanding of planning and executing a major gifts program
- Superior interpersonal skills and ability to communicate professionally
- Excellent oral and written communication skills, including public speaking
- High level proficiency with Microsoft Office
- Exceptional organizational and time management skills
- A talent for engaging others and building positive interpersonal networks
- Working knowledge of Raiser’s Edge database software.
- A high level of comfort and effectiveness working with high-net-worth individuals
- Self-confidence, optimism, personal resilience, and the ability to function at peak levels in a complex environment
- Ability to handle highly confidential information appropriately
- Ability to establish and maintain excellent rapport with others. Exhibits patience, discretion, good judgment, courtesy, and tact.
- Creative and self-motivated, with a passion for meeting and exceeding goals.
General Information
- Annual Salary $85,000 to $100,000 based on experience
- Full time work which includes periodic weekends and evenings for events, dinners, and other activities.
