Brethren Village Retirement Community, in Lititz, PA, is hiring a full-time Chef Manager. The successful applicant will have the opportunity to work in a full service restaurant open to the public, a bistro, and in our healthcare facility kitchen, under the guidance of a talented Executive Chef.
The Chef Manager:
- provides planning, coordination, administration, and oversight for assigned functions, dining areas, and staff
- trains and guides assigned Dining staff; assists with scheduling and monitoring of work hours for staff
- works collaboratively with Dining staff to ensure the dietary needs of Skilled Care and Personal Care Residents are met, and helps foster a pleasant dining experience for our Independent Living Residents, Team Members, and other dining guests
- prepares meals for various campus dining areas
- recommends and creates new menu items
- assists with, and prepares meals for, large catered events and fine-dining functions

Work Schedule:
- Full-time, benefits-eligible, 40 hours per week: Typically 6:00 a.m. - 2:30 p.m. and/or 10:30 a.m. - 7:00 p.m., including every other weekend and holiday. Work days and hours will vary a bit from week to week.
Core Requirements:
- a high school diploma or G.E.D.
- dependability: ability and willingness to meet attendance standards
- effective computer skills: the ability to access and navigate web sites, and use applications and databases independently
- the ability to read and to complete online training independently
- commitment to consistently working in a safe and hygienic manner, wearing protective equipment as required for the position, and adhering to all health and safety standards

Additional Requirements for This Position:
- at least 3 years of professional experience as a Chef in a restaurant, cafe, healthcare facility, college, or similar setting
- a current Dietary Manager Certification (CDM) is preferred, or willingness and ability to obtain certification upon hire
- knowledge and experience with various food preparation techniques, tools, and equipment
- the ability to read and carefully follow recipes and food preparation schedules
- knowledge of safe food handling regulations - a food safety / "ServSafe" certificate; ability and willingness to consistently adhere to all Brethren Village protocols and sound food-safety practices
- experience managing a function, program, or department
- experience overseeing or supervising staff; willingness and ability to effectively train and mentor staff
- ability to effectively plan and coordinate dining services for large events, and coordinate the work of others to meet objectives
- ability to remain calm and work effectively in a fast-paced environment
- the ability to stand for an entire work day; to walk frequently; and to lift and carry 25 lbs. on a routine basis
- ability and willingness to work every other Saturday, Sunday, and holiday
