DIRECTOR OF SCHOOL CULTURE: SY22-23

Bridge Boston Charter School is a tuition-free, K1-8 public school serving 335 students in Roxbury, Massachusetts and the surrounding community – many of whom have experienced social, emotional, and developmental barriers to learning. 

Three core beliefs guide our work:

Reporting to the Chief Academic Officer, the Director of School Culture is responsible for building and maintaining systems that ensure a joyous and achievement-oriented school culture. They will implement the school’s mission through effective support of the school’s students and staff in maintaining a healthy school climate. 

The Director of School Culture will be responsible for:

  • Possess a clear vision of what great school culture looks like and regularly articulate this vision to students and staff.
  • Supervision of the Lower and Upper Division school deans
  • Serve as a  member of the ILT and working in close collaboration with Upper and Lower Division Directors
  • Write, update and maintain systems and policies for attendance, entry, breakfast, class transitions, cafeteria usage, lunch, bathroom usage, dismissal, homework and other areas of student life in collaboration with ILT members and Division Directors.
  • Plan and implement a behavior management system consistent with the school’s educational philosophy 
  • Analyze school-wide trends around attendance, behavior, homework and class transitions and develop and lead initiatives to address challenges.
  • Engage students and parents in the school’s goals and core values; ensure that all students care deeply about their school community, about their own academic performance, about their futures; ensure students find joy in learning and have fun; emphasize school’s mission and values in one-on-one, class, grade level and school-wide venues.
  • Conduct regular school culture walkthroughs to maintain a high bar of excellence.
  • Train staff in classroom management, student engagement and parent involvement.
  • Partner with social workers and the teaching community, as necessary to provide advisory support on positive behavior intervention systems, SEL, and/or school wide behavior systems..
  • Establish protocols and best practices to ensure that teachers communicate regularly with parents

Qualifications:

  • BA or BS required
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in school leadership role
  • Prior experience serving in an urban school setting preferred 
  • Demonstrated cultural competence and sensitivity; belief in the value of diversity 
  • Clear willingness to make and learn from mistakes
  • Ability to be flexible with a variety of tasks and desire to work in a fast-paced environment 
  • Commitment to Boston-area students who deserve consistency and engagement  

COMPENSATION

  • Starting salary at $77,500
