A DAY IN THE LIFE OF A CULINARY ARTS INSTRUCTOR

As a Culinary Arts Instructor, you would provide students with technical instruction and guide them as they apply the information to hands-on, competency-based activities. You would be involved in creating, managing, and participating in a variety of activities that provide opportunities for students to develop to their fullest potential and achieve their learning objectives. Responsibilities would include mentoring, advising, coaching, and assessing students as well as keeping accurate records of their work. You work collectively with other faculty and staff to promote the general well-being of the department, the students, and the College.

When catering events are scheduled, you would assist with planning and performing all aspects of working in the commercial kitchen from food prep to clean up. You maintain the cleanliness of food prep areas at all times and follow sanitation standards to the letter. You love the camaraderie that comes with being part of a cohesive team in a tightly run kitchen and enjoy working in a fast-paced environment where you are never bored!


JOB SUMMARY

Create, manage, and participate in a self-paced learning environment that provides opportunities for students to develop culinary skills through theoretical and hands-on instruction. Engage in retention and recruitment activities for the Culinary Arts department in collaboration with fellow faculty and staff. Assist in all aspects of college catering events.


QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's degree or a Culinary Arts Certification and two years of experience within the industry.
  • Ability to assist and/or take lead with catering events including all aspects of working in a commercial kitchen from food prep to clean up.
  • Proficiency in the use of content area as it relates to curriculum and delivery.
  • Ability to lift 50 lbs., stand for extended hours, and work on slippery surfaces in a humid kitchen environment.
  • Leadership ability.
  • Self-motivated.

WORK SCHEDULE

The typical work schedule for this position would be Monday - Friday from 7:30 AM to 3:30 PM. Occasionally, catering events require additional hours outside of this schedule.
