Our center is one of the 42 sites in the state of Arizona that is NAEYC Accredited, and holds a 3-star rating for quality First. Our School Age Program is one of the first to receive an accreditation for after-school care through the Arizona Center for Afterschool Excellence.
We are looking for qualified School Age Teachers to support children in their academic achievements and progress before and after school. The teacher will be easing them into organized education, and to provide exceptional care to our before and after school program. You will teach them important elements that they will encounter soon after they enter school life.
A School Age teacher must have a great love and patience for children. Qualifications needed to teach them effectively include knowledge of best practices and educational and academic methods as well as the ability to engage them and earn their trust and attention.
The goal is to contribute to the healthy mental and emotional development of the child so they can more easily acclimate in the next level of education.
Teacher to student ratio: 1:20, 2:40
Responsibilities
- Develop a careful and creative program suitable for School Age children
- Employ a variety of educational techniques (storytelling, educational play, media etc.) to teach children
- Observe each child to help them improve their social and emotional competencies and build self-esteem
- Encourage children to interact with each other and develop social and emotional skills and be able to assist to resolve occasional problems
- Must be able to help and assist in homework/projects
- Guide children to develop their artistic and practical capabilities through a carefully constructed curriculum
- Organize snack hours and supervise children to ensure they are safe at all times
- Track children’s progress and communicate with parents regularly
- Collaborate with other educators and mentors
- Maintain a clean and tidy classroom consistent with health and safety standards
- Assist in any virtual learning or in person learning (School Age)
- You will be responsible for the health and safety of a maximum of 19-40 children in School Age, with 2 teachers
- Must be able to work and support other classrooms while school age children are in school.
- Employee must utilize KidKare & ProCare daily
Requirements
- Minimum of 1 year experience as a school age teacher
- Excellent understanding of the principles of child development and preschool educational methods
- Familiarity with safety and sanitation guidelines for classrooms
- Excellent communication and instructional skills
- Ability to act as mediator between children
- Cool-tempered, friendly and reliable
- Must have knowledge of Arizona Department of Health Services licensing regulations pertaining to childcare
Mandatory Credentials
- Current State of Arizona Level One Fingerprint Clearance Card (https://psp.azdps.gov/)
- Current Maricopa County Food Handlers Card
- A negative TB test dated within the last year
- Current CPR and First Aid Certification
- High School Diploma or Transcripts
- One or more years of experience working as a lead or assistant teacher in a childcare setting
