SCOPE OF ROLE
The Actuarial Consultant will have a lead role in Individual ACA Line of Business pricing, risk management, strategy decisions and block management.
ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES
The Actuarial Consultant job description is intended to point out major responsibilities within the role, but it is not limited to these items related to Individual line of business:
- Work in tandem with Actuarial leadership and Line of Business and have lead responsibility for project work related to regional ACA pricing, experience analysis, product strategy and related items
- Support development of forecasting models, projections and relevant information to inform business decisions on states for which they are responsible
- Support the team through modeling, market analysis and experience to inform company growth initiatives
- Lead responsibility for rate filings, objections and pricing technical work
- SME for their respective line of business/states, supporting strategy and plan design discussions, market positioning and regulatory landscape
- Ad hoc analysis: experience studies, factor validation, new model/process development
- Manage and mentor analysts to achieve work deliverables and ensure their development relative to team growth goals
EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE
- A Bachelor’s degree required in Math, Statistics, Economics, Actuarial Science, or a related field is required
- Five (5) or more years of experience working with commercial ACA products is required
- Associate of the Society of Actuaries or greater required
- Meets or exceeds continuing educations requirements for SOA and Academy
- Understanding of healthcare claims data
PROFESSIONAL COMPETENCIES
- Proficient in Microsoft Excel and other Office products
- Experience with forecasting, modeling, and SQL or SAS
