What are the responsibilities and job description for the Payroll Specialist position at BrightStar Care?
BrightStar Care, the nation’s leading home care and medical staffing franchisor, is growing! We are looking for an experienced payroll specialist. The Payroll Specialist will be responsible for processing weekly payroll for multiple locations. The Payroll Specialist will oversee the processing of payroll for assigned locations, including processing timesheets and updating payroll records to ensure employees are compensated correctly and on time.
MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Collects, verifies, records, maintains, and/or processes information in the payroll system; information may include employee’s hourly rates, salaries, commissions, bonuses or other compensation, time worked, paid leave and holidays, deductions and withholding, address changes, and other information.
- Ensures proper processing of payroll deductions for taxes, benefits, charitable contributions, and other deductions.
- Processes employee transactions and gathers necessary documentation for payroll changes for Corporate, BSL and BTG
- Assists with and processes payroll for corporate, BSL and BTG as needed.
- Computes wages, commissions, and deductions
- Ensures compliance with federal, state, and local tax laws, including remittance of payroll taxes
- Processes and monitor garnishment orders
- Handles employee complaints about incorrect payments and resolves discrepancies
- Reconciles payroll to the general ledger and monthly bank statements.
- Issues, or reissues, pay cards or physical/replacement checks or direct deposits due to payroll errors or final discharge.
- Records and processes federal and state payroll tax deposits.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
EDUCATION
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
SKILLS/ABILITIES
- Two years of experience in accounting or bookkeeping with at least one (1) year of experience in payroll.
- Experience processing payroll with ADP WorkforceNow.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Excellent time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software.
- Ability to read, write, speak, and understand English
- Ability to maintain confidentiality of information
- Ability to make decisions and solve problems while working under pressure
- Ability to prioritize and organize effectively
- Ability to show judgment and initiative and to accomplish job duties in a timely manner
- Ability to work independently
- Knowledge of state and federal tax laws
WORKING CONDITIONS
- This role is a remote role.
- Travel requirement: 10% as needed to support the successful operation of the business.

Colorado, New York, Washington, and California Pay Law
The pay range for this position in Colorado, New York, Washington and California is $20.00 - $25.00, however, base pay offered may vary depending on skills, experience, job-related knowledge and location.
