Pay:
This is an exempt/salary position. The pay range is $50,000 - $70,000. Pay may vary depending on your location, skills, and experience.
Location/Travel Requirements: This position is located in our Rapid City, South Dakota corporate office.
Job Summary
This position is responsible for computing, classifying and recording financial transactions to ensure the financial records of the organization are accurate. The accountant also performs routine financial calculations and general ledger duties. This position will provide support to the Controller with the monthly close process, accounting and analysis for contracts and job costs, and accounting research. This position must perform all of this work while abiding by Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
Responsibilities and Duties
- Prepare weekly hourly payroll and monthly salaried payroll.
- Process accounts payable on a weekly basis.
- Prepare and enter journal entries and review, analyze and reconcile general ledger, sub-ledgers, schedules and bank accounts in a timely manner.
- Maintain orderly files of required analysis and documentation consistent with external internal audit requirements and department standards.
- Ensure that policies and procedures documentation is accurate and kept up to date for compliance with segregation of duties and Sarbanes and Oxley.
- Maintain strong internal controls relating to data security and integrity.
- Maintain strong working relationships within the accounting department and with other business unit personnel.
- Operates computers programmed with accounting software to record, store and analyze information.
- Checks figures, postings and documents for correct entry, mathematical accuracy and proper codes.
- Classifies, records and summarizes numerical and financial data to compile and keep financial records, using journals and ledgers or computers.
- Complies with federal, state and company policies, procedures and regulations.
- Compiles statistical, financial, accounting or auditing reports and tables pertaining to such matters as cash receipts, expenditures, accounts payable and receivable, and profits and losses.
- Codes documents according to company procedures.
- Reconciles or notes and reports discrepancies found in records.
- Resolves processing problems for the bookkeeping function.
- Performs detailed research/adjustment functions.
- Balances general ledger account.
- Ensures compliance with established procedures and processes.
- Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed including special projects.
Qualifications and Skills
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field required
- 1-3 years of accounting/finance experience
- Demonstrate intermediate to advanced skills and knowledge of Excel, as well as other Microsoft Office applications
- Experience with general ledger functions and the month-end/year end close process and fundamental understanding of generally accepted accounting principles and financial statements.
- Ability to perform and review compiled and reviewed financial statements.
- Ability to assist with tax examination process.
