- Supervise students before school, during class, during recess, lunch periods and after school (bus duties a.m., noon and p.m.).
- Work with individual students or small groups of students to reinforce learning of material or skills initially introduced by the teacher.
- Operate and care for equipment used in the classroom for instructional purposes.
- Help students master equipment or instructional materials assigned by the teacher.
- Distribute and collect workbooks, papers and other materials for instruction.
- Guide independent study, enrichment work and remedial work set and assigned by the teacher.
- Assist with the supervision of students during emergency drills, assemblies, recess periods and field trips.
- Provide escort and assistance to children as necessary.
- Foster good eating habits and table manners in children.
- Assist with large group activity such as drill work, reading aloud and storytelling.
- Read to students, listen to students read and participate in other forms of oral communication with students.
- Assist students in the library, media or computer center.
- Assist staff with the collection and recording of money.
- Help students with their clothing.
- Assist with breakfast, lunch, snack and cleanup routines.
- Assist with wash-up and toilet routines.
- Alert the teacher and/or administration to any problem or special information about an individual student.
- Maintain the same high level of ethical behavior and confidentiality of information about students as is expected of teachers.
- Participate in in-service training programs as assigned with prior discussion with the union.
- Supervise bus students and walkers as assigned by the building principal and assist in the office with copying, telephone responsibilities, etc.
- Possibility of office coverage in lieu of secretary absence.
- Cover office and answer telephones during secretary’s lunch break.
- Is responsible to and performs duties as assigned by the building principal.

REPORTS TO: PRINCIPAL
SUMMARY: Supervise students before school, during class, recess, lunch periods and after school. (Bus duties a.m., noon and p.m.) In addition to performing a variety of duties both in and out of the classroom.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Other duties may be assigned.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Paraprofessional is responsible for the safety and wellbeing of students in his/her charge.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: TO PERFORM THIS JOB SUCCESSFULLY, AN INDIVIDUAL MUST BE ABLE TO PERFORM EACH ESSENTIAL DUTY SATISFACTORILY. THE REQUIREMENTS LISTED BELOW ARE REPRESENTATIVE OF THE KNOWLEDGE, SKILL AND/OR ABILITY REQUIRED. EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:
High School Diploma or General Education Degree (GED). Two years of college credit OR hold an associate’s (or higher) degree; OR successful completion of a paraprofessional assessment which assesses content knowledge in mathematics, reading and writing and an understanding of how to assist in the instruction of these topics (Parapro Assessment)
LANGUAGE SKILLS:
Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:
Ability to add and subtract two digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10s and 100s. Ability to perform these operations using units of American money and weight measurement, volume and distance.
COMPUTER SKILLS:
Basic knowledge and experience with job related computer hardware and software applications.
REASONING ABILITY:
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, staff and the community. Ability to perform duties with awareness of district requirements and Board of Education policies.

Salary: Per contractual agreement Work Hours: 7 hours per day ~ 7:45am - 3:15pm
