Position overview
We are seeking an Underwriter to join our growing Underwriting & Risk Department.
As a member of the Underwriting team, you will have significant responsibility from the outset, as well as substantial headroom for professional growth.
You will play a pivotal role on our credit risk/underwriting team by making credit decisions and managing our credit portfolio.
In this role, you will combine your prior UW experience and critical thinking skills with our proven processes and proprietary software to assess the credit worthiness of businesses, decide which applicants are eligible for funding, and structure the financing terms of offers.
Primary Responsibilities
· Gather and evaluate small business financial information to determine applicant creditworthiness, ensuring loan compliance with Company and regulatory requirements.
· Underwrite loans by analyzing business history, financials, and credit profiles to comply with company policies.
· Perform analysis of complex business and personal financial statements and tax returns
· Ensure proper pre-funding quality control steps are taken on all loans.
· Exhibit a sense of urgency towards meeting applicant requests while also meeting acceptable risk parameters
· Maintaining company standards for productivity and compliance of underwriting turnaround standards.
· Provide frequent communication with all parties involved in transactions in a positive and constructive manner.
· Actively engage with the Underwriting/Risk team for general guideline interpretations and questions on specific loan files
· Perform other required duties, as requested.
Qualifications:
· 3 years of underwriting/credit analysis experience within a lending organization (ideally with an MCA funder or reputable small business lender)
A Bachelor’s Degree (or equivalent) in business, finance, accounting or similar level of background is required
· Knowledge and understanding of loan related transactions, cashflow analysis, compliance, lending practices and risks
· Ability to read, analyze and interpret loan documents, credit reports, bank statements and financials
· Excellent verbal and written communication skills
· Detailed oriented self-motivated individual
· Skilled at working with urgency and deadlines, handling confidential and time sensitive materials to ensure turnaround times meet requirements
· Excellent customer service skills with the ability to foster a positive relationship with customers and co-workers
· Strong values/ethics and a commitment to adhere to the highest standards of professional conduct
