BronxWorks is Hiring (1) Development Associate for Administration Development Department.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Proposal and Report Writing- Under the supervision of the development director and in consultation with the executive director and other staff, the candidate will write funding proposals to foundations, corporations, and funding federations (i.e., the United Way) using the Common Application Form or other formats.
- Under the supervision of the development director and in consultation with the executive director and other staff, the candidate will write funding progress and final reports to foundations, corporations, and funding federations using the Common Reporting Form or other formats.
- In consultation with the development director and the executive director, the candidate will edit drafts of some proposals prepared by program staff.
- In consultation with the development director, the executive director, and other BronxWorks staff, the candidate will oversee the compilation and writing of large-scale proposals to government agencies (i.e., the New York City Department of Homeless Services, the Department for the Aging, the New York City Department of Youth & Community Development, and the New York State Office of Children and Family Services).
- The candidate will be responsible for the preparation of inquiry letters to prospective funding sources for priority program service and administrative areas
- The candidate will be responsible for the preparation of thank you letters to institutional donors for in-kind or cash donations.
Proposal, Report, Inquiry Letter, and Other Materials Uploads - The candidate will be responsible for the transmission of proposals, reports, inquiry letters, corporate documents, and other materials using online government portals like Grants.gov, the Grants Gateway, and Passport
- The candidate will be responsible for the transmission of proposals, reports, inquiry letters, corporate documents, and other materials using online Flux or other online portals used by foundations, funding federations, and financial intermediaries
Materials Development - In conjunction with the executive director, the development director, and others, the candidate will assist with the development of the annual PowerPoint presentation on organization accomplishments.
Donor Research
- The candidate will be responsible for the identification of public or private institutional funding sources for priority program service and administrative areas using the Foundation Center Directory, GuideStar, websites, and other materials.
- The candidate will develop summary profiles of prospective funding sources for review and use by the executive director, development director, or other BronxWorks staff.
- At the request of the executive director or the development director, the candidate will undertake research on select individuals who head or are key staff at foundations, funding federations, financial intermediaries (i.e., Enterprise Community Partners), other private institutional funding sources, or government agencies.
Interface with Current or Prospective Funding Sources, the BronxWorks Board,
and its Fund Development Committee
- The candidate will assist the development director and the executive director with the preparation of background materials for presentation to or meetings with the BronxWorks board, its Fund Development Committee, the Program Committee, or other board standing committees as requested.
- The candidate will assist the development director and the executive director with the preparation of materials to be used for site visits by foundations, corporations, or funding federations.
- The candidate will prepare highlights from selected board, Fund Development Committee, or current or prospective donor site visits.

- The candidate may perform other duties as required by the board, executive director, development director, or other senior staff

QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s degree in the social sciences or a related field (a master’s degree is preferred)
- Strong writing and verbal communications skills
- Strong computer skills, with a particular emphasis on Microsoft Office Suite applications, Internet search engines, GuideStar, Google analytics, and the Foundation Center Directory
- Ability to compile, analyze, and synthesize program service data for proposals, solicitation letters, reports, Power Point presentations, and other documents
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and interact with staff members throughout the organization without regard to title
- Knowledge of fundraising devices, including proposals, inquiry letters, and online portals
- Must be able to meet deadlines and follow the guidelines of funding sources as well as instructions from the development director, executive director, and other senior staff
- Ability to work with other staff within the development office and staff members throughout BronxWorks
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
- Must be fully vaccinated for COVID-19
- Ability to use a computer for prolonged periods
- Ability to occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds
- Ability to stand, walk, or sit for long periods of time
- Ability to climb five flights of stairs
- Ability to bend and retrieve objects and/or documents
- Ability to travel in the boroughs of New York City and its adjacent counties via public transportation
- Ability to travel for a minimum of 1 mile within a reasonable amount of time and in all types of weather, including inclement weather
