Overview of the High School Student Support manager role:

The high school leadership team is led by the high school principal and includes a director of operations and four assistant principals (Math, Humanities, Spanish/Arts, and Science/C.S.), a Student Support Manager, and a History Department Manager.  The team works together to ensure a strong and coordinated approach to delivering excellent instruction and a robust and thriving school culture.  The specific responsibilities of the Student Support Manager are as follows:

Responsibilities

  • Ensures Brooke is in compliance with all special education and Section 504 laws (in coordination with the Network Chief of Student Support)
  • Ensures school is in compliance with English Language Development (ELD) services (in coordination with the Network Multilingual Learner Coordinator Chair)
  • Supervises IEP and 504 case managers, school psychologist(s), social worker(s), and paraprofessionals
  • Oversees Child Study Team Process and special education qualification process
  • Coordinates out of school tutoring programs for student on medical leave, or away from school for other reasons
  • Schedules services, including related services and mental health services 
  • Oversees and coordinates testing accommodations
  • Assists principal and network leaders in developing course pathways 
  • Oversees and coordinates testing accommodations
  • Serves as an attendance team member
  • Assist in Coordinated Program Reviews and other state / federal monitoring
  • Holds a strong vision for what excellent high school instruction looks like and deeply believes in the importance of realizing that vision
  • Effectively develops staff. Plans and leads weekly professional development that meets the needs of the instructional staff and results in improved achievement 
  • Regularly observes and gives in-person feedback to staff in the department
  • Oversees data cycles and data-based actions aligned to academic goals of being one of the best schools in the state regarding MCAS scores and AP passage rate per student.
  • Creates and conveys a positive vision for student culture and realizes that vision through leadership and development of staff, community meetings, strong communication, presence, and the power of example.
  • Develops and maintains a positive staff culture on the student support team based on a shared commitment to the school’s mission and a belief in their own power to contribute to it.
  • Contributes to positive culture leadership across the school
  • Supports and upholds strong school policies that lead to a consistent, fair, and effective school culture. 
  • Has a visible presence throughout the school. 
  • Attends community events. 

Qualifications

  • 3 years of teaching experience 
  • Deep knowledge of support services including special education and Section 504
  • Special Education License (in or out of state) or a degree in Special Education

Compensation

  • Starts at $87,000 for candidates meeting minimum requirements.
