What are the responsibilities and job description for the School Nurse position at Brookfield Schools?
Position: School Nurse- Elementary; Monday-Friday 8:30am-3:30pm
Qualifications: B.A. or B.S. from an accredited college or university. R.N. from an accredited college or university. School Nurse Certification.
Relationship: Reports directly to the Principal.
Responsibilities: The School Nurse has the responsibility for the overall functioning of the school’s medical office, including administration of first aid, maintenance of student and staff medical information records, and fulfillment of any other responsibilities dictated by the New Jersey of Education and Health.
General Duties:
- Obtains and maintains all the school health/medical records on students and staff in accordance with state and federal regulations. Communicate with families and doctors, as necessary.
- As required, each year has the Nursing Services Plan in place for board approval at their September meeting.
- Administers to students and staff any required health assessments as required by rules and regulations.
- Establishes proper procedures for storage and administration of all students’ prescribed medications and/or
over-the-counter medications as permitted in writing and supplied by a student’s guardians or parents. Oversees the implementation of those procedures.
5. Acts as consultant to the homeroom teachers and special area teachers regarding health-related issues and curricular materials.
6. On a regular, at least annual, basis:
7. Reviews and up-dates all health records.
8. Reviews and up-dates health policies and procedures, and proposes revisions asappropriate.
9. Informs staff of all current health policies and procedures and keeps them up-dated throughout the year.
10. Oversees the ordering, obtaining, maintenance, and use of all medical/health equipment. Always maintains adequate supplies.
11. Communicates relevant information on health/medical issues directly to the Principal, the Director of Student Services, the Clinical Director, and to other staff, as they so designate.
12. Attends all staff and committee meetings, case management meetings, in-services, and special events as assigned.
13. Performs such other duties as may be designated by the Executive Director/Superintendent.
