The Brooklyn Center Community School (BCCS) District is seeking applicants to join our team as
Assistant Director of Finance. Performs difficult professional and administrative work planning, monitoring, and coordinating district financial functions, maintaining records and files, preparing reports and related work as apparent or assigned. Financial functions include cash management, revenues and investments, financial accounting and reporting, budgeting, accounts payable, accounts receivable, and grant accounting. Work involves setting procedures and goals under the direction of the Finance Director. Departmental supervision is exercised over all personnel within the department. This position is a training position for the Finance Director position. The successful candidate will succeed the Finance Director once training is completed.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Assist the Finance Director to develop short-term and long-term financial goals for the district, regular financial forecasts, and other financial reports for internal and external use by the district.
- Consult with all departments providing necessary financial data to make informed business decisions and suggest strategies for maximizing district resources.
- Analyze financial information, provide recommendations for improvements and communicate any financial concerns.
- Assist the Finance Director in the development and presentation of the annual budget and the budget development cycle, Prepare and present forecasts of the district financial position and enrollment projections. Work with administration on budget development, management, and implementation.
- Assist the Finance Director to develop information and evaluation capabilities to aid in short and long-range financial forecasting, including the formulation of budgetary formulas, multi year budget projections and the preparation of budget control guidelines and procedures.
- Work with district staff and grantors on budget management, compliance and reporting for all Federal, State, and Local grants.
- Develop and implement a system that ensures compliance to track and report programs’ and grants’ revenue and expenditures.
- Recommend procedures for competitive bidding, quotations, and negotiations for items necessary for the operation of the district.
- Maintain a purchase system that makes optimum use of district resources and updates the order system with current encumbrances.
- Serves as a key member of the District negotiating team in collective bargaining, providing financial advice and strategic planning toward district objectives.
- Perform all accounting functions to ensure revenues received meet UFARS requirements.
- Prepare for the district’s annual audit and work with external audit firm to ensure accurate year-end financial data and reports.
- Prepare, approve and submit all financial reports as required.
- Other duties as apparent or assigned.
Knowledge, Skills and, Abilities Preferred:
- Knowledge of business and management principles involved in strategic planning, resource allocation, human capital management, leadership, and coordination resources.
- Knowledge of principles and procedures for personnel training, supervision, and leadership, labor relations, motivating, developing, and directing employees
- Ability to effectively monitor and prioritize work
- School finance experience, with knowledge of legal mandates, policies and regulations pertaining to educational accounting and fiscal record management and reporting.
- Strong analytical and computer skills required to support data base management forecasting, cost-benefit analyses and decision-making activities.
- Data processing systems and software used in the collection, analysis, reporting and accounting of student and financial information.
- Knowledge of UFARS accounting procedures.
- Knowledge of district administrative policies and procedures.
- Ability to relate and communicate effectively with people of different cultural, ethnic, and socio-economic backgrounds
- Ability to listen and use conflict resolution strategies
- Adept in networking and building collaborative relationships
- Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with other employees, leaders, and external partners
Qualifications:
- Required work experience in addition to formal education/ training
- Progressive financial responsibilities in a school setting preferred
- Supervisory experience preferred
