Description
As part of a digital content team, you'll work with people across the Museum’s Engagement department and the Museum as a whole to help make our email, SMS, and social media programs great. Reporting to the Senior Digital Content Manager, you’ll contribute to content development and creation; assist with platform management and publishing; and support community management and audience cultivation—with the aim of sending delightful and engaging emails, texts, and social posts to Brooklyn Museum followers and subscribers and helping us deepen relationships with our members, visitors, and art lovers worldwide.
This is a grant-funded role available through July 31, 2024.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent
- At least two years of digital experience at a digital media outlet or mission-oriented organization
- Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills
- Prior professional writing and/or content production experience
- Basic photo and video editing skills, and confidence using with social in-app tools
- Confident savviness with a variety of digital platforms—we currently use Mailchimp for email, Attentive for SMS, and we’re on Instagram, TikTok, YouTube, Twitter, Tumblr, and Facebook
- Exceptional organizational skills: Capable of managing different work streams and projects simultaneously; able to manage near- and long-term deadlines simultaneously
- Great attention to detail and consistency
- Data-driven, or at least data-curious
- Enthusiasm for using online tools to reach people, meet goals, and bring people together through art
- Experience with Adobe Suite (Photoshop, Rush, Premiere)
- HTML/CSS skills
- Experience using project management software (we’re on Airtable)
Responsibilities:
- Content creation—brainstorming ideas; crafting words for emails, texts, tweets, and captions; making and/or tracking down images, videos, and graphics. (Love making TikTok videos? You’ll do that too)
- Production support—creating and managing monthly asset requests (design & image) for email, sms, and social; supporting the Digital Content Manager with the planning, logistics, and execution of social media-productions (this will include occasional live social coverage at select public events and education programs); supporting the creation of asset packages for marketing, press, and others parties as needed, helping route content approvals by internal and external stakeholders
- Scheduling and publishing—following and updating the digital team content calendars in AirTable; drafting, formatting, and scheduling emails, texts, and social media posts (organic, and occasionally paid social); occasionally publishing content that can’t be scheduled in advance
- Quality assurance and accessibility—doing final checks to ensure accuracy, accessibility, and best practices are met with segmenting, coding, tagging, image descriptions, alt-texts, captioning, and more
- Platform management—proactively supporting the upkeep and maintenance of our social channels (Instagram, TikTok, YouTube, Twitter, Tumblr, Facebook); updating info and links, swapping stories, changing banners, etc.
- Audience cultivating—Work with the Senior Digital Content Manager and Director of CRM to pull audience segments for email and SMS sends, updating and correcting constituent relationship records where necessary
- Community championing—going beyond standard community management, you’ll initiate conversations in the comments and direct messages; make friends with our followers, artists, peer organizations; help answer their questions; de-escalate heated exchanges, see what are visitors are sharing and help us crowd-source content (#mybkm); listen to what followers and are saying, thinking, feeling, and report back to us so we can make everyone’s experience better onsite and online
- Analytics & Reporting—Help us assess performance of email, SMS messages, and of social media content, pulling stats and examples, and presenting to the team as needed
