Electrical Engineer

Position Overview:
We are hiring an Electrical Engineer to join one of our largest Energy/Utilities companies in the Richmond area to join their Electric Transmission System Operations Engineering. This department provides crucial engineering support for the reliable control and operation of the company’s Transmission System. This department supports applications used by operations personnel in the field to make real-time and offline decisions that impact the Bulk Electric System (BES), including SCADA systems, alarm management, and various visualization tools.
As the Electrical Engineer on the Transmission System Operations team, you will be responsible for modeling of the transmission system, coordinating with various teams, and supporting the development of tools to enhance situational awareness in the operations control room. Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Power Systems Engineering, or a related field.
- Demonstrated experience in engineering modeling software, such as AutoCAD or Adobe Illustrator (preferred).
- Proficiency with SCADA systems, EMS modeling, and network topology.
- Experience in alarm management and display visualization for control rooms.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to communicate effectively and collaborate with cross-functional teams.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience working in or with large-scale electric transmission operations.
- Familiarity with PJM operations and coordination.
- Experience with Primate displays and weekly deployment processes.
- Knowledge of Bulk Electric System (BES) operations and regulations is a plus.
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform SCADA modeling and configurations, including network topology, equipment ratings, and parameter impedances. Maintain and update operator displays as needed.
- Coordinate with internal engineering, operations, field teams, and external partners such as PJM, to ensure full maintenance of the Energy Management System (EMS) model.
- Support the development and enhancement of situational awareness tools for the operations control room.
- Participate in company and industry-level teams to improve system operations performance.
- Provide technical assistance for weekly maintenance and deployment of Primate displays.
- Collaborate with Modelers and SOC Consultants to implement weekly display changes in Primate displays (e.g., bus KV, line identifiers, breaker SCADA IDs, etc.).
- Use AutoCAD or Adobe Illustrator to design or modify technical displays.
- Perform other duties as assigned to support the operations and engineering team.
