Join the volunteer team as an usher and meet exciting people who share your passion for live theater, while giving back to the community. For more than 20 years South Florida residents have proudly served as volunteer ushers at the Broward Center for the Performing Arts. A Broward Center volunteer is an individual who chooses to give his or her time and talents as part of a team, with dedication, enthusiasm, and flexibility.

Ushers are an important part of every performance. You’ll help welcome our audiences, make them feel at home and ensure that everything runs smoothly from lights up to curtains down.

Job Description

· Prepare program for distribution with the correct program inserts, stuffing as needed.

· Greet all patrons in a warm and friendly manner.

· Engage patrons by answering questions and offering assistance when needed.

· Read tickets and direct patrons to their appropriate location; assist with patrons with seating.

· Observe and enforce all Center policies, including but not limited to late seating, proper seating, photography, and concessions in the house.

· Assist patrons exiting or entering the theater during a performance, assuring that all theater doors are staffed with volunteer support during the full duration of the performance.

· Observe patrons who are causing a disruption: taking pictures, recording etc. and notify appropriate staff.

· Check for lost items in assigned section at the end of a performance.

· Guide and assist by leading patrons to safety in the event of an emergency evacuation.

· Adhere to the Usher dress code at all times as described in training manual.

· Attend all volunteer course trainings.

· Adhere to all PACA health & safety guidelines.

REQUIREMENTS

  • Full time year-round South Florida resident
  • Commit to a regular (weekly) shift.
  • Attend formal orientation training date as scheduled by the volunteer office.
  • Comply with all standards and policies as provided in Volunteer Manual
  • Ability to escort patrons to seats in all levels of the theater: orchestra, mezzanine, or balcony.
  • Great attitude to serve as needed.
  • High School students must be accompanied by a parent while volunteering.
