This is technical work in the enforcement of Chapter 8 1/2 of the Broward County Code of Ordinances Elevator Section while also training to perform: the enforcement of Florida Statute 399 and related regulations.
Under the general supervision of an Elevator Section Supervisor, Chief Building Code Inspector, the Building Official or high level administrator incumbent performs investigations for elevating devices against expired certificates of operation, expired permits and late fees, prepares case files, patrols areas, issues citations and testifies at boards/hearings. Also schedule inspections utilizing the Elevator scheduling calendar.
While also training to perform the following: inspections on elevating devices construction regarding electrical and mechanical installations. Specific area of responsibility depends upon certification and trades experience. Employees inspect elevating devices and ensures compliance with plans and code references. Employee must also be able to take the necessary enforcement actions to gain compliance. Work is performed with considerable independence within established codes, regulations, and technical guidelines, and is reviewed by administrative superiors through conferences and reports.
General DescriptionPerforms support duties in an agency in order to gain knowledge, skills and professional experience. Works under close to general supervision according to set procedures and work is reviewed through observation of performance, frequent conferences and reports.
Employees participating in the Trainee Program/Classification receive hands-on work experience and on-the-job training, which may be supplemented by related educational activities. These activities may include participation in County training or skills development programs, requisite external educational coursework, and/or completion of certificate programs.
Through this Trainee Program, an individual who does not meet all minimal requirements for a specific job classification has an opportunity to gain the job experience and/or training necessary to qualify and potentially transition into the job classification.
Utilization of this classification should be on a limited basis and for agencies that have documented difficulty finding qualified individuals for vacant positions. The Human Resources Division should be consulted prior to attempting to fill a Trainee position.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
To be eligible for participation individual must be at least 18 years of age and able to comply with all applicable County employment guidelines.
Must also be able to fulfill the minimum job requirements of the associated job classification the employee is training for within a maximum of two (2) years from the date of hire.
Special Certifications and Licenses
Dependent upon area of assignment.
Must possess and maintain a valid Florida Class E Driver's License at time of appointment, and must obtain and maintain the authority to drive on County business.
Special Trainee Program Requirements:
Must obtain Florida Association of Code Enforcement (FACE) Certification within one (1) year of date of employment.
Must obtain Certification as an ANSI/ASME Qualified Elevator Inspector (QEI) within two (2) years of date of employment.
Must obtain a State of Florida Certified Elevator Inspector (CEI) License within two (2) years of employment.
PreferencesBachelors Degree in Mechanical Engineering and/or related field
Florida Association of Code Enforcement Officers (FACE)
Fire Safety Inspector
Two (2) years of experience witnessing tests specified in ASME A17.ICSA B44 and ASME A IB
Fluent speaking Spanish and/or Creole
