Brown and Caldwell’s Private Sector Business Unit (PSBU) is looking for a self-motivated Hydrogeologist/Geologist or Environmental Engineer to join our Phoenix Office. This is a position with excellent growth potential with the successful candidate contributing to an established team of talented hydrogeologists, scientists, and engineers.

In this role, you will have the opportunity to participate on multiple projects including:

  • Groundwater Production Well Siting, Design, and Installation
  • Water Resource Planning and Permitting
  • Groundwater Recharge, Storage, and Recovery
  • Soil and Groundwater Investigation/Remediation
  • Phase I and Phase II Site Assessments and Investigations
  • Permit Compliance Groundwater Monitoring

  • Field work including (but not necessarily limited to): collecting soil and water samples; overseeing drilling operations, borehole logging, well installation oversight; managing investigation derived waste, coordinating/oversight of subcontractors.
  • Coordinate and manage subcontractors including drillers, waste handling, and remedial construction contractors.
  • Support project managers on a variety of site investigation, remediation, monitoring, and/or water resources projects.
  • Schedule, implement, and oversee field programs.
  • Develop work plans, safety plans, design documents, and technical reports.
  • Assist with the preparation and interpretation of boring logs, cross-sections, contour maps, well schematics, and site maps.
  • Technical report writing, analysis of field data, and delivery of professional advice to your colleagues and clients.
  • Work independently and with multi-disciplined teams to meet project objectives.
  • BS Degree in geology, hydrogeology, geological or environmental engineering required
  • 2-5 years of geology/hydrogeology and/or environmental engineering experience
  • Must be a self-starter, highly organized, results-oriented, reliable, and able to work well with a wide variety of coworkers and subcontractors
  • Knowledge of local and/or regional hydrogeology a plus
  • Desire to obtain Professional registration in Geology or Engineering
  • Experience with well design and drilling oversight experience a plus
  • Strong verbal and written (technical writing) communication skills required
  • Must be proficient in using standard computer programs (MS Word, Excel); experience with MS Access, CADD, ArcGIS, and/or boring log software (such as gINT or LogPlot) a plus
  • 40-hour OSHA Hazardous Waste Operations (HAZWOPER) Certification required, 24-hour MSHA Part 48 a plus
  • Must be willing to travel, sometimes nationally, to project sites as needed. An average of 25% of a year is estimated.
  • Valid driver’s license and good driving record required
  • Field assignments require ability to perform physically demanding work
  • Ability to work for an 8-12 hour shift in extreme temperatures including heat and cold.
  • Ability to wear required safety equipment at sites including hard hats, steel toed boots (or other approved toe protection), safety glasses, etc.
  • Ability to stand for several hours observing and documenting field conditions and/or critical construction operations
  • Ability to operate a BC pickup truck to commute to jobsites and to access work areas on site
  • Ability to safely walk around sites of varying size that may have areas of uneven, muddy, and/or rocky ground to perform inspections and take photographs
  • Ability to lift objects less than 30 pounds
  • Ability to remain alert and vigilant while working around construction equipment and be able to walk swiftly for a short distance to clear an area where a potential hazard is identified
  • Ability to climb stairs (2-3 flights) or ladders (up to 24 foot typically) to access structures for visual inspection
  • In the office one-day per week (except when in the field)

Salary Range: The anticipated starting pay range for this position is based on the employee’s primary work location and may be more or less depending upon skills, experience, and education.  These ranges may be modified in the future.

Salary $58,000- $79,000
