Brown Edwards is seeking an Estate & Trust Manager to support our growing firm. This position is open to any of our 11 office locations.
Position Summary:
The Trust & Estates Manager will primarily focus on trust, estate, gift, private foundation, and personal tax compliance for high net-worth clients. The Manager simultaneously conducts multiple engagements, maintaining contact with clients. The Manager displays technical and communication skills, and judgement essential for dealing with clients. Managers work in a specific or unique area of the Firm, with focused technical expertise.
Responsibilities
Specific duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:
Applies tax knowledge to the preparation and review of individual, trust, estate, gift, and private foundation tax returns.
Works effectively in analyzing estate and trust documents and gathering data from the clients and other third parties.
Reviews inventories and accountings, and understands and manages the probate process.
Directs engagements, which includes the timeline, budget, and schedule required.
Reviews workpapers related to engagements in this area and supervises other staff in this area.
Assures compliance with federal, state, and local laws and regulations.
Performs specialized research and planning according to the current laws.
Assists in creating processes, checklists, and tools to increase efficiency and consistency in estate and trust engagements across the firm.
Able to communicate with and work through IRS controversies that may arise.
Works with all office locations, as needed, as a firm resources in the trust and estate area.
May be responsible for several jobs at one time.
Position Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting.
5+ years of experience in public accounting.
CPA license strongly preferred.
Intermediate to advanced level Microsoft Office Suite experience.
Experience with CCH ProSystem Tax, CCH Engagement, and/or FPS/One Source 706 Estate Tax Software preferred.
Experience with preparation and/or review of high-net-worth individual, estate, trust, gift, and private foundation tax returns required.
Experience with and an understanding of the taxation of closely held businesses and pass-through entities is preferred.
Strong communication, organizational, and analytical skills.
Highly motivated.
Willing to stay up to date through continuing education and continuous reading of professional journals.
Ability to interact well with clients.
