Responsibilities
- Produce written proposals, basis of estimates, cost estimates, budgets, and updates for project managers, senior management, and clients.
- Manage overall estimating workload within civil business line; this includes management of other estimating personnel.
- Independently determine/develop crew and equipment assemblies, production rates, and schedules for heavy civil scopes of work based on industry experience.
- Ability to identify and communicate project risks and incorporate mitigation strategies developed through communication with management team.
- Furnish accurate and clear quantity takeoff information to provide a detailed list of materials and assess the total construction costs.
- Prepare, seek review of, and submit inquiries to clients regarding drawings, specifications, and scopes of work.
- Support constructability reviews through communication with the project team, designers, and subcontractor market.
- Prepare organized and accurate cost estimate back up documentation.
- Develop, maintain and expand subcontractor and supplier database.
- Must have extensive knowledge/experience in self-performance of all civil infrastructure scopes of work including earthwork/grading, dam/levee repair and/or repair, dewatering, demolition, underground utilities (e.g., water/sewer/storm), road construction and repair, asphalt pavement, and concrete construction.
- Experience managing a team of estimators
- Minimum 10 years of experience in the heavy civil construction industry; project cost estimating and construction management experience is preferred.
- Experience estimating federal projects is mandatory
- Ability to read, understand and interpret contract documents, drawings, specifications, scopes of work, and project schedules. Demonstrated leadership and interpersonal skills
- Requires critical thinking, analytical and strong math skills.
- The successful candidate will have experience with spreadsheet, word processing, scheduling and estimating software.
- The successful candidate must have ability to recognize the need for additional support and resources to complete identified proposal/estimate preparation opportunities.
- A degree in construction management, engineering or equivalent experience is required.
