SES Environmental Resources Solutions LLC (SER) is growing! We are seeking a Wildlife Biologist to support our aviation team. This key role will be to provide natural resource environmental consulting services to aviation, defense, federal, state, and private sector clients. Successful applicants to this position would assist with a variety of environmental planning activities such as developing Bird/wildlife Aircraft Strike Hazard (BASH) Plans, Wildlife Hazard Management Plans (WHMPs), Wildlife Hazard Assessments (WHAs), Wildlife Hazard Site Visits (WHSVs), Wildlife Hazard Management Trainings (WHMTs), WHMP audits, National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) documents, Integrated Natural Resources Management Plans (INRMPs), and permit applications.
The ideal candidate will: be fairly analytical and communicate in a factual, straightforward, and direct manner; be selectively social, able to work with others as needed and independently focus for extended periods of time; operate in a systematic, predictable, and reliable manner, but ready to adapt and improve processes and results when warranted, and have a relatively high attention to detail, driven by accuracy and quality.
This position reports to the Jacksonville, Florida office, requires 50-60% travel, with the potential for remote work. This position requires working in a variety of weather/environmental conditions and may require working outside of standard working hours for travel or dusk/dawn/nocturnal surveys.

Essential and marginal functions may require maintaining physical condition necessary for bending, stooping, sitting, walking or standing for prolonged periods of time; frequent opportunity to move about and to work outside the office environment for extended periods involving exposure to the elements with weather that will include extreme heat, cold, wind, rain or other inclement weather, walking over rough and uneven surfaces, and routine lifting of up to 35 pounds. If required, must properly use personal protective equipment (PPE) at all times including but not limited to; hard hats, steel toed boots, eye protection, respiratory protection, and hearing protection. Is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals and loud noise.

Responsibilities
- Prepares project plans and reports (WHMPs, WHAs, BASH Plans, etc.) with technical editing required.
- Conducts avian field surveys and thoroughly documents field activities through field notes and photographs.
- Performs technical tasks, such as calculations, layouts, data analysis, and preparation of a report under the direction of a senior professional.
- Supports other programs as needed including threatened and endangered species surveys, gopher tortoise relocations, wetland delineations, NEPA documents, soil and groundwater investigations, compliance projects, cultural/ natural resource projects, and remediation activities.
- Assists project managers in executing scope of work on time and within budget.
- Provides office support for data management and report preparation.
- Maintains the required documentation and forms.
- Performs environmental regulatory research and analysis.
- Meets required schedules.
- Manages personnel workloads, apprises project managers of progress and obstacles, and presents project outputs for final delivery.
- Works both in a team environment and with minimal supervision; and
- Displays a strong work ethic and professional demeanor.
- Specific tasks include: planning, developing, and implementing of wildlife management programs for civilian and military airfields; monitoring wildlife behavior and abundance posed by various species of wildlife on airports and surrounding properties; collect, summarize, analyze, and present ecological data on wildlife hazards to airport staff and appropriate regulatory agencies; conduct wildlife damage investigation activities; monitor and ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations for airports; assist airports with compliance with these regulations; establish and maintain cooperative relationships with other agencies, organizations, institutions, industry groups, and individuals in meeting wildlife program needs and goals; conduct wildlife management training for aviation personnel (civilian and military); and conduct species-specific surveys for protected wildlife, plants, and nesting birds.
- Bachelor of Science degree in Biology, Zoology, Ecology, Environmental Science, Natural Resource Management, or related field, with specific course work in ornithology, mammalogy, animal ecology, wildlife management, zoology, and/or research courses in the field of wildlife biology.
- 1-3 years of specialized experience completing avian surveys and/or working on military or civilian airfields.
- Ability to accurately identify North American birds and assess their abundance, behavior, and habitats.
- Excellent verbal communication and technical communication skills.
- Ability to travel to field sites across the United States and occasionally conduct surveys in difficult terrain.
- Ability to interpret and apply the Migratory Bird Treaty Act (MBTA), Endangered Species Act (ESA), Department of Air Force Instruction (DAFI) 91-212, and Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Regulations.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (PowerPoint, Word, Excel, Outlook, Access).
- A strong ability to prioritize, organize, and perform multiple work assignments simultaneously. The ability to prepare clear and concise reports, procedures, correspondence, and other written materials is also required.
- Preferred Qualifications: The Wildlife Society certification as an FAA-Qualified Airport Wildlife Biologist (QAWB) or Associate Wildlife Biologist (AWB®) with experience working towards a Certified Wildlife Biologist (CWB®)
- Proficiency in the American English language (composition, spelling, grammar, and punctuation).
