JOB DESCRIPTION SUMMARY:
Estimators at Bruce L. Jones Contractor Company are responsible for providing complex project estimates based on client documents. These documents provide a complete conceptual and total bid price that includes detailed time, cost and labor estimates. These estimates will include the proper level of detail for all design stages, including the following: conceptual, schematic design, design development and construction documents. Working knowledge of the construction industry and the associated costs is preferred to effectively perform this job. You will be asked to perform certain tasks outside the normal scope of operations.
ORGANIZATIONAL STRUCTURE:
Estimators report directly to the Senior Estimator of Bruce L. Jones Contractor Company. Estimators will work closely with your peers in the Pre-Construction department at Bruce L. Jones Contractor Company to help meet the strategic goals.
SKILLS, EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATIONAL/TRAINING QUALIFICATIONS:
· Required Qualifications – The ability to operate within MS Office Excel; The ability to communicate with clients, architects, engineers, and management staff; time management skills; problem solving skills; critical thinking skills; organizational skills; advanced computer skills. Must be legally allowed to work in the United States. A High School Diploma or the equivalent.
· Preferred Qualifications – An Associate or Bachelor’s degree in a relevant discipline from an accredited college or university. A minimum of two years of experience in division 6 (wood framing) estimating in the construction industry. Experience reading Blueprints (architectural and structural drawings). Knowledge of STACK and other web-based estimating tools.
STRATEGIC RESPONSIBILITIES:
· Production Efficiency – Estimators must maximize the efficiency of the estimating department and achieve key performance indicators (KPI) goals per the company strategic plan. Goals are to be set and met on a daily schedule. Must participate in the development and maintenance of procedures and initiatives to meet the strategic responsibilities.
· Effective Planning – Must be able to effectively coordinate, using all appropriate methods, with potential and existing customers, to meet deadlines. Estimators must demonstrate the ability to communicate with clients and peers in the organization. Participation in strategic, operational and tactical management of the business operations is required as necessary.
TACTICAL RESPONSIBILITIES
· Time Management – Manage time effectively, including proactively communicating with clients and potential clients in regards to jobs out for bid. Multi-tasking various jobs at once may be necessary.
· Business Knowledge – Understanding/learning the construction design and division 6 (wood framing) estimating. Reading and understanding Blueprints (architectural and structural drawings). Estimators are competent in STACK and the use of MS Excel. Implicit knowledge of profit will be necessary. Must display the ability to produce material and hardware submittals for awarded jobs.
· Organizational Skills – Problem solving skills and attention to detail are critical in estimating. Estimators work towards productive planning and plan implementation/analysis of data to develop and maintain business.
