What are the responsibilities and job description for the GIS Administrator position at Brunswick County?
The GIS Administrator supervises, assigns and reviews the work of technical and clerical personnel in the GIS Land Records Division of the Tax Department, and assists subordinates as non-routine situations arise. This position coordinates the department’s GIS system, develops the digital database, and oversees the installation of hardware and software systems. The GIS Administrator also analyzes data, prepares a variety of maps and reports, provides training for GIS to other departmental staff, and works as in-house liaison with system users for problem solving and troubleshooting. Duties also include coordinating the installation and maintenance of office equipment, creating and maintaining various data layers, and working with GIS staff and department head on GIS database design. Reports to the Tax Administrator.
Qualifications
Bachelors degree in GIS, Geography, Planning or related field supplemented by four (4) to five (5) years of progressively responsible experience in GIS system design, programming and/or mapping, or any equivalent combination of training and experience which provide the required skills, knowledge, and abilities.
- Must possess a valid North Carolina Driver's License.
- GISP Certification highly desirable.
Physical Requirements
Tasks involve the ability to exert very moderate physical effort in light work, typically involving some combination of climbing and balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching and crawling, and which involves some lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling of objects and materials of moderate weight (up to 20 pounds). Tasks may require extended periods of time at a keyboard or workstation.
