JOB SUMMARY:
This position is responsible for the assembly of BS&B custom engineered Pressure Relief Devices. These devices constitute two, three, or four-piece components of various custom engineered components made from mostly stainless steel that are prepared into kits, placed into a custom fixture that is then cycled into an automated laser welding machine, and then removed for checking and packaging.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Manufacturing

  • Operate BS&B’s assembly equipment (laser marking machine, laser welding machine, quality capture by camera) in the manufacture of pressure relief device assemblies, either in segments or from beginning to end, in accordance with defined Manufacturing Specifications.
  • Ensure machine settings are to specification at all times.
  • Prepare component kits in typically 500-piece groups in readiness for assembly.
  • Visually check that each machine operation has occurred.
  • Work with colleagues in Production, Materials, Engineering and other plant functions where appropriate to achieve various production, quality, and lead time KPI targets.
  • Participate in maintaining a high-quality manufacturing environment. Contribute suggestions that will improve products, and processes which in turn deliver quality, productivity, and performance gains.
  • Comply with all safety procedures and regulations. Suggest methods to improve safety and efficiency where applicable.
  • Monitor tooling and equipment in areas of responsibility; report repairs, upgrades, or replacement to Maintenance.
  • Adhere to ISO 9001-2015 and AS9100D procedures.
  • Verify components coming into the work area are of correct condition to achieve assembled product characteristics.
  • Inspect and measure parts and finished pieces to ensure quality and adherence to job specification; maintain records.
  • Support of visits, inspections, and audits from customers, and quality/regulatory bodies within assigned manufacturing areas.
  • Maintain a clean and safe work area that is compliant with all safety rules and regulations.

Quality

  • Inspection support for team members when setting up production runs
  • Quality inspection surveillance of ongoing production
  • Quality inspection of completed goods and record keeping
  • Quality documentation preparation and / or checking for shipment
  • Verification of outgoing packaging labels
  • Goods Inwards inspection and record keeping
  • Leak testing (Helium mass spectrometer, bubble test methods currently used)
  • Use of inspection equipment to perform above tasks (such as micrometer, caliper, optical comparator, digital indicator)

OTHER SKILLS & FUNCTIONS:

  • Operate equipment supporting assembly activity such as labeling and packaging systems.
  • Perform other duties and project work as assigned by Production Supervisor.
  • Ability to work under pressure to meet production targets.
  • Responsible and flexible to the needs of customers.
  • Good communication skills and ability to maintain good working relationships.
  • Self-motivated and proactive, with the ability to achieve objectives with minimal supervision.
  • Reliable work ethic.

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

Education: High School graduate or equivalent. Experience in an engineering assembly workshop environment including use of automated and semi-automated equipment.
Experience: 3 years’ experience in material fabrication and assembly or similar trade for production of precision assemblies. Dedication to producing work of the highest quality. Skilled in CNC controlled or similar high-tech equipment.
Knowledge: Knowledge of automotive industry expectations an advantage. Ability to interpret engineering drawings (blueprints) and technical procedures. Knowledge of manufacturing equipment that is computer controlled such as a laser marking system. Must have thorough knowledge of reading and understanding blueprints as well as knowledge of measurement tools (e.g. tape measure, square, calipers).
Mental/Physical/Visual Demands: Regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts, and the conditions of a light assembly weld shop . Regularly exposed to moderate to loud noise level.
Personal Protective Equipment is required but not limited to steel-toed boots, welding helmet, and safety glasses. Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as proportions, percentages, area, circumference and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry. Must have ability to read, analyze, and interpret complex documents. Ability to apply principles of logical or scientific thinking to a wide range of intellectual and practical problems. Ability to deal with nonverbal symbolism (formulas, scientific equations, graphs, in its most difficult phases.
Frequently needs to talk and hear. Occasionally stands, walks and sits, as well as using hands to touch or feel, and arms to reach. The employee is occasionally required to sit. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds, unassisted.
Working Conditions: Regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts, and the conditions of a light assembly weld shop . Regularly exposed to moderate to loud noise level. Personal Protective Equipment is required but not limited to steel-toed boots, welding helmet, and safety glasses.
Equipment/Tools Used: Tig and Laser welding machines and associated equipment. Weld lathe, and associated hand tools. Will use other welding and soldering equipment as required. Metals used range from Aluminum, carbon and stainless steels, to Exotic Ferrous Alloys. The majority of welding work is autogenous (no filler). Use of filler wire or rods of various diameters and materials may occur.
Safety: Safe work performance is always required from each employee. Additionally, the proper discharge of safety responsibilities is an integral part of each employee’s performance appraisal.
