Role Purpose:
As the Health, Safety, and Environmental (HS&E) Coordinator, reporting directly to the Plant Manager, you play a pivotal role in ensuring compliance with all legislative requirements pertaining to health, safety, and environmental standards. Your primary responsibility is to advocate for and implement key elements of our HS&E management system. Additionally, you provide expert consultation, guidance, and support to managers and colleagues across all aspects of health, safety, and disability management. A solutions-oriented leader, you possess extensive knowledge of OHSA legislation and other relevant regulations.
Major Responsibilities and Activities:
- Lead or assist in implementing and maintaining HS&E company standards.
- Ensure compliance with USA legislative requirements, particularly those in the province of Michigan, related to HS&E.
- Monitor and strive to achieve HS&E performance indicators.
- Conduct training sessions on HS&E requirements for the unit population.
- Actively contribute to the implementation and maintenance of the 5S system.
- Offer expertise, consultation, and advice on health, safety, and disability management to management staff and colleagues.
Specific Activities:
- Address non-conformance reports (NCRs) from previous HSE audits or legal compliance audits.
- Resolve open accident/incident investigation reports.
- Develop or review lockout/tagout (LOTO) procedures.
- Conduct personal protective equipment (PPE) assessments for core positions.
- Update job safety analyses (JSAs) and personal development assessments (PDAs) for core positions.
- Conduct quarterly assessments.
- Review and update ergonomic assessments for core positions.
- Conduct new hire orientations.
- Perform workplace inspections, integrating details and evaluating the first three senses of the 5S Program.
- Implement workplace inspections using a mobile app.
- Update Risk Management Plans (RMP) as required by law.
- Deliver safety talks, transitioning to twice-weekly sessions after two months.
- Manage waste streams, track quantities generated, and ensure accurate reporting.
- Review, revise, and update aspects and impacts assessments.
Authority:
- Sign waste manifests and represent the company in health, safety, and environmental matters.
- Issue work permits for hot work, confined spaces, and work at heights.
- Represent the company before certification bodies related to health, occupational safety, and the environment.
- Halt any hazardous activity jeopardizing personnel safety.
Preferred Qualifications:
Minimum Qualifications, Education, Certification, or Equivalent:
- Post-secondary degree or diploma in a related discipline or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Minimum of 5 years of practical experience in a health and safety role.
- Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to engage effectively with all organizational levels.
- Proficiency in training colleagues on HS&E-related matters.
- Thorough understanding of legislative requirements, including the Occupational Health and Safety Act.
- Experience in claims management, including WSIB and WSIAT appeals processes.
- Proficiency in data management and reporting systems for disability management.
- Advanced analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Familiarity with ergonomic principles is advantageous.
Additional Qualifications – Technical or Functional Competency Requirements:
- Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing principles is desirable.

Salary: Up to $70,000.00 per year
