Assessor

Job Overview:
We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Tax Assessor to join our team. As a Tax Assessor, you will be responsible for evaluating and determining the value of properties for tax assessment purposes. This is a critical role that requires strong analytical skills and knowledge of financial concepts. This position is under the supervision and evaluation of the Township Superintendent. Duties include but are not limited to the following: to meet all assessing requirements as put forth by the State of Michigan; to have and maintain a Level 3 Assessing Certification; to maintain and certify the assessment roll; and to perform related work as required.

An employee in this class may be called upon to any or all of the following duties. The examples listed below do not include all the tasks which the employee may be expected to perform but are considered functions of this classification.

• Mail personal property forms;
• Receive and calculate personal property forms;
• Mail change of assessment notices;
• Complete and certify the assessment roll;
• Oversee the March, July and December Board of Review;
• Submit necessary forms to the County Equalization Department;
• Receive and process principal resident affidavits;
• Receive and respond to tax tribunal appeals;
• Measure and calculate new construction for new assessed values;
• Receive deeds and sort for splits;
• Process splits and draw new parcels on maps;
• Survey the Township for new personal property;
• Inspect new construction for year-end partial completions;
• Provide information and assistance to the public;
• Review property records, sales data, and other relevant information to assess property values
• Receive and review equalization studies;
• Recalculate existing parcels;
• Assign addresses to new parcels;
• Receive property transfer affidavits;
• Record property sales on tax maps;
• To meet all assessing requirements as put forth by the State of Michigan;
• Conduct property assessments to determine their value for tax purpose
• Stay updated on tax laws, regulations and assessment methodologies
• Perform related work as required

Skills:
To excel in this role, you should have the following skills:
- Strong understanding of financial concepts
- Knowledge of private equity and Low-Income Housing Tax Credit (LIHTC) programs
- Excellent analytical skills with the ability to interpret data and make informed assessments
- Attention to detail and accuracy in assessing property values
- Strong communication skills to effectively interact with property owners, colleagues, and other stakeholders

Job Type: Contract

Pay: $65,000.00 - $70,000.00 per year

Schedule:

• 8 hour shift
• Monday to Friday
