What are the responsibilities and job description for the Senior Director of Financial Planning and Analysis position at Buff City Soap?
The Sr. Director of FP&A will report directly to the CFO and actively partner with the Leadership Team and cross-functionally to drive strategic decision-making and profitable growth for Buff City Soap, primarily by providing accurate and timely financial forecasting, reporting, and analysis. The Sr. Director will have responsibility for developing and delivering a sound financial plan to achieve the company’s overall strategic vision. Importantly, she/he will lead the team’s efforts to extract valuable insights from financial analyses, which will help the company optimize its business.
Scope of Responsibilities
- Leadership:
- Manage and develop the FP&A team to achieve excellence in short- and long-term planning and analysis to support a rapidly growing company's increasingly complex planning function.
- Monitor and use data to dynamically advise senior leadership on critical business decisions
- Help develop organizational priorities and goals
- Exercise leadership of the FP&A team through a combination of empowerment and coaching to encourage staff development and elevate team performance.; maintaining a highly motivated and engaged team is a crucial success factor
- Store Performance:
- Create monthly and quarterly financial business reviews, including reviewing results vs. plan, creating future output guidance to leadership, and explanations to address variances between actuals, last year's results, and plan
- Present a weekly business reporting package and insights to the Leadership team
- Manage the daily sales reporting and monitoring process, derive and present insights, and continuously enhance the reporting to include key business performance metrics
- Build and analyze detailed Store P&Ls to determine opportunities for improvements
- Manage and continually refine labor forecasting analytics and tools
- Budgeting and Forecasting:
- Lead the sales forecasting process, including developing critical assumptions based on market trends and strategic plans
- Develop annual financial budgets and manage the regular reporting process
- Create and manage regular forecasts based on actual performance against budget
- Build and maintain financial models to produce pro-forma financial statements (income statement, cash flow, and balance sheet)
- Identify and quantify risks or opportunities to plan due to the current business environment and provide insights and recommendations to mitigate risks or benefit from opportunities
- Company Strategy/Board Support:
- Work with the Leadership Team to identify other special projects and other ad hoc analysis areas, including proforma P&Ls and performance models
- Work with the Leadership Team to provide analysis and regular reporting of financial and other business performance metrics for quarterly Board meetings and monthly updates
- Support the development and presentation of business cases for various strategic initiatives, including those presented to the Board
- Financial Reporting and Treasury Support:
- Work with the CFO and Accounting to support periodic financial statements, including SEC-styled reporting such as 10-Qs and 10-Ks
- Work with the CFO and Controller to support treasury functions such as cash forecasting
Basic and Preferred Qualifications
- MBA or master's degree in economics/finance preferred
- 7-10 years of relevant business experience (e.g., consulting, investment banking, or function-specific roles in financial planning and analysis, financial modeling, accounting)
- Superior analytical and modeling skills; ability to summarize detailed analyses/data into executive-level presentations
- Excellent collaboration skills and ability to influence various business stakeholders including franchise partners
- Exceptional verbal and written communication skills
- Advanced Excel skills required, knowledge and experience with Domo a plus
- Prior public company experience and working knowledge of GAAP accounting preferred
