Assistant Principal (Assistant Upper Academy Director)
Buffalo Collegiate, a college prep charter school in its fourth year of operation, invites energetic and committed educators to apply to the position of High School Assistant Principal (Assistant Upper Academy Director). The Assistant Upper Academy Director will support the Academy Director in staff development, culture, discipline, curriculum, academic achievement, and family partnerships for grades 9 through 12. Our school is founded upon the belief that all students can achieve at high levels when provided with high expectations and a supportive learning environment. Buffalo Collegiate will build a team of adults who will work tirelessly to fulfill our mission so that all students are firmly on the path to excel in college and become our next generation of leaders. For the 2022-2023 school year we will educate students in 4-9th grade, and we will add one grade per year until we graduate our first class of college ready twelfth graders in 2026. Buffalo Collegiate seeks authentic, dedicated, kind, and intellectually curious individuals to join our team. This is a founding high school position, and will fundamentally help to develop and implement the high school culture for our founding class of students. In year one, this position will support the 9th grade class.
The Assistant Upper Academy Director will support the Academy Director with all instructional, operational, and cultural elements of the school.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree required; Master’s or advanced degree highly preferred.

- Experience with educational leadership required and experience in a similar position preferred; minimum of three years teaching experience in an urban public school or charter school setting required.

- Experience with Regents diploma requirements and supporting students in their transition to college
- NY teacher license preferred.
- NY School Building Leader and/or School District Leader Certification favorably considered.
Job Expectations
The Assistant Academy Director must be prepared to successfully carry out many different tasks, including, but not limited to the following:
- Assist with daily school leadership, including all instructional, operational, and cultural components within the Upper Academy.
- Assist the Academy Director with recruitment, hiring, supervising, training, and evaluating direct reports.
- Lead or support facilitation of professional development for teachers and support staff in the Upper Academy.
- Communicate effectively with the Academy Director and leadership team; collaborate on major decisions.
- Create structures to oversee meaningful parental involvement.
- Analyze student achievement data to drive instruction and student intervention to maximize student achievement.
- Monitor progress of students with special needs and ENL students and evaluate the effectiveness of Special Education and ENL programs.
- Monitor implementation of IEPs and 504 Plans, working closely with the Director of SPED and Intervention.
- Build and sustain a school culture based on the school’s PRIDE values.
- Develop and manage progress towards internal and external goals for the Upper Academy.
- Engage in professional growth opportunities.
