What are the responsibilities and job description for the Assembler I Yard position at Builders FirstSource?

PURPOSE The Assembler I is an entry-level position that performs repetitive assembly operations to mass-produce products such as windows, doors, trusses, panels, or stairs by performing the following duties.ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIESWorks at different workstations as production needs require.Works in environment where tasks change as varying models of product are produced.Plans and implements the assembly process by reading and understanding set-up sheets, work orders, drawings or blueprints and gathers necessary materials and tools to complete order.Ensures that assembled items meet specific quality specifications; may propose process improvements in order to increase finished quality or efficiency of assembly processes.Plans and paces own work efficiency to meet daily, weekly, project, or team related production goals.Responds attentively to training from Supervisor or more senior assemblers to increase own knowledge of work processes.Understands and observes all safety procedures and practices to prevent injury to self or co-workers; attends periodic safety meetings as required; may recommend changes to improve safety procedures.Selects and sets proper machine control settings/part(s) wherever appropriate, such as placing correct disk on saw, setting guides, etc., according to type of work order and specification of cut.Selects material to be machined (i.e., beams, headers, studs, fire blocking, plates, blocks, doors, lumber). Starts machine, places wood stock on table against proper guides, and pushes stock against saw or machine for cutting.Measures cut stock with ruler, caliper rule, or square to verify dimensions against specifications, or sets proper dimensions on automated machine settings.Starts machine and cuts, routes, bores, etc. the wood stock material or product (doors) according to the written or computer specifications on lengths or angles or dimensions.Writes correct label (numbers and/or letters) on cut stock/prepared product.Removes cut stock from machine and places on job carts. Deliver carts to proper location or team member for shipment or further work.Maintains production count by marking completed work on correct work order and delivering paperwork to team leader or manager.Prepare cut inventory for future use.Clean equipment, floors, and work areas according to safety procedures.Other duties may be assigned.SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIESThis job has no supervisory responsibilities.MINIMUM REQUIREMENTSTo perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.Minimum education: High school diploma or General Education Degree (GED).Knowledge of and ability to use a variety hand and power tools to assemble either building materials components products.Knowledge of safety procedures while performing assembly tasks. Competencies: Oral and written communication skills, planning skills, Problem-solving skills, Ability to read and understand simple diagrams or blueprintsEQUIPMENT, MACHINES OR VEHICLES USED IN THIS POSITIONAir nail gun, Stair Router Machine, Drills, Planer, Jointer, Saws: Miter, table, panel, double trim, hand, whirlwind, band Forklift Door Routing Machine Shaper Tools: hammer, nails, handsaw, square level, screwdriver, wrench, wood chisel, tape measure, router, speed square, belt sander.COMPETENCIESAbility to read and comprehend simple instructions.Ability to write simple correspondence. Verbal expression ability to effectively present information, in both individual and small group situations.Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide. Ability to read tape measure.Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.Overtime work could be involved.WORK ENVIRONMENT / PHYSICAL ACTIVITYThe physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. The employee is continuously required to walk.The employee is occasionally required to climb or balance and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.The employee must continuously lift and /or move up to 25 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds.Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.While performing the duties of this job, the employee is continuously exposed to moving mechanical parts and may be exposed to airborne particles.The noise level in the work environment is sometimes loud.Will be required to wear ear plugs for noise protection as well as eye protection and other personal protective equipment required by the location.Work is performed within a production environment, subject to temperature variations, hazardous chemicals, mechanical parts, increased noise levels and dust.

Salary : $29,000 - $36,800
