The OPPORTUNITY
Builders Mutual is seeking a skilled finance people leader to serve as Controller. This director-level role will be responsible for managing the accounting and regulatory elements of the Finance Department to get the job done right. You will leverage your finance and leadership expertise in meaningful work, including preparing, reviewing, and publishing the organization's financial statements and acting in a fiduciary capacity to safeguard our assets.
This visible leader will report to our VP/CFO to strategically lead, develop, and motivate a high-performance finance accountant team with specific responsibilities to include staffing, development, and providing direction of all phases of the department. Because the success of our company is rooted in teamwork and how we care about the people we work with and serve, this hybrid role will work in our Raleigh office for a minimum of two days with the flexibility of remote work three days a week.
Your WORK as the Controller will make a difference as you:
- Direct and manage procurement, accounting, and regulatory reporting operations. This includes operating plan execution, relevant infrastructure maintenance and deployment, development of processes that safeguard Company assets, and other activities that further department and corporate goals.
- Assure that internal controls are adequate and that the Company is in compliance with relevant policies.
- Manage accounting and general ledger activity, statutory financial accounting, reporting, and tax activity.
- Coordinate all audit activity of the organization by public accounting firms and the NCDOI, including completing client assistant packages and reviewing statements and footnotes.
Skills to get the JOB done RIGHT:
- 10 years of experience in a professional business environment with a BA/BS with a concentration in Accounting or Finance or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Proficiency and experience in accounting, audit, finance, tax, reporting, budgeting, business operations, strategic planning, and financial planning and analysis.
- 5 years of financial leadership experience in the insurance industry, preferably in the Property & Casualty arena.
- Knowledge of SSAP Accounting, statutory accounting principles, and general ledger systems.
- Demonstrated successful track record with directing and managing a diverse team.
- Superior written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to engage whole company in the delivery of critical business projects.
- Superior organization, problem solving and interpersonal skills.
- A current CPA license is required, preferably from North Carolina.
