Bull City Legal Services is a non-profit law firm serving the Durham community. We have income-based fees to make legal justice more accessible to everyone in our community. We are currently seeking an experienced Tenancy attorney to join our team as a contractor, on an as-needed basis. This position may be best as supplemental income for someone currently operating their own practice or seeking part-time work.

Responsibilities:

• Represent clients in legal proceedings related to landlord-tenant disputes, evictions, lease agreements, and housing discrimination
• Provide legal advice and guidance to clients on matters related to tenancy law
• Draft legal documents, including pleadings and motions
• Negotiate with opposing counsel to reach settlement agreements when possible
• Work closely with clients to develop legal strategies that meet their unique circumstances and goals
• Manage client relationships and expectations.

Requirements:

• Active NC bar membership in good standing
• At least 3 years of experience practicing law
• Ability to work independently and manage a caseload
• Strong negotiation and advocacy skills
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills This is a contract position, and compensation will be based on an hourly rate commensurate with experience. The starting pay rate for contractors is $50-$75 per billable hour collected. This is a remote position — no office space is currently available. Candidates must have access to reliable and secure internet (no working on unsecured or publicly shared Wi-Fi).
